Spectra Logic Designs Feature-Rich, Scalable Library for Small to Medium Enterprises
HANNOVER, CEBIT 2005, 14 March 2005-Small to medium enterprise customers must protect business data and project future growth, but few tape libraries address these needs affordably, and with a sophisticated feature set. In response, Spectra Logic created a robust SME solution leveraging its proven T Series software. Spectra is now shipping the Spectra® T50-a fast, small library with true enterprise features, for the budget-conscious user.
"Spectra Logic's new T50 LTO library is aimed at a high-growth segment tape market," said Robert Amatruda, research manager at IDC. "Today, customers demand more capacity and functionality at much lower cost."
Spectra T50 library code is built on nine generations of software from Spectra Logic's existing storage line. The T50 is designed for the small to medium-sized business but has the features of the enterprise T950 and mid-range T120 libraries, such as remote management tools, the ability to easily add slots and drives, and compatibility with disk.

T50 features include an intuitive GUI with Web-browser based interface and color touch screen; and enterprise-class management and health-check tools. The library lets customers increase capacity in just five-slot increments, making it the industry's only library with this flexibility. Media can be easily reordered through the Web-based remote library controller, included with the library, or the front panel touch screen.
Pricing and Availability
The Spectra T50 library holds up to 4 LTO drives and 50 media slots in 4U, or seven inches in a standard NEMA rack. The library has 576 GB per hour throughput and 40 TB (compressed) or 20 TB (native) with LTO-3. The T50 is compatible with all major backup software, operating systems and platforms. T50 will be available in May, and pricing begins at $9,300. Another version of the library, the S50, will soon be available and is designed for the distribution channel.
