New GE Fanuc Single Board Computer Offers Increased Power Efficiency and Performance

Introducing New Intel® Pentium® M based CompactPCI® Single Board Computer

Huntsville, Ala. - December 3, 2003 - GE Fanuc Automation Americas, Inc., an affiliate of GE Industrial Systems, introduces the VMICPCI-7806, a single slot CompactPCI single board computer (SBC) offering the robustness, reliability and hot-swap features required for demanding embedded computing applications. Based on Intel's Pentium M processor technology, the VMICPCI-7806 at 1.6 GHz performs many applications comparable to 2.4 GHz but requires roughly 50% less power.

"This next generation of processor addresses our customers' needs for increased performance and throughput, reduced power demands, longevity of supply and flexibility of product," explained Saeed Karamooz, chief technical officer, embedded systems, GE Fanuc Automation. "The small footprint of the new micro-architecture enabled us to support standard interfaces on-board - such as dual Ethernet ports and SCSI - while retaining enough real-estate for two additional PMC slots - affording our customers the flexibility and choice for additional I/O."

Fully compliant with PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI Packet Switching Backplane (CompactPCI/PSB) specifications, the VMICPCI-7806 features two Ethernet controllers supporting 10/100/1000BaseTX interfaces, two USB 2.0 ports, Serial ATA support, two high performance 16550-compatible serial ports, two PMC expansion sites, and IDE and floppy drive interfaces. In addition, the VMICPCI-7806 adheres to the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) architecture (PICMG 2.9), which supports full board remote control and BMC and peripheral mode.

GE Fanuc's VMICPCI-7806 is available now.
