Large Sapphire Windows for Navigation and Targeting Systems

Custom fabricated sapphire windows in sizes up to 18" dia. by ¼" thick or equivalent diagonal, for use in military navigation and targeting systems, are being introduced by Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Large Sapphire Windows are designed for use as pilot, instrument, and weapon systems viewports because of their durability and high accuracy. Featuring Moh 9 surface hardness for optimum abrasion resistance, they are offered in custom sizes up to 18" dia. by ¼" thick which provide transmitted wavefront to ¼-wave, parallelism to 2 arc-sec, and a 70:1 aspect ratio.

Manufactured to customer specifications, Meller Large Sapphire Windows have surface finishes to 60-40 scratch-dig and are impervious to water, most acids, alkalis, and harsh chemicals to approx. 350°C. Second only to diamond in terms of hardness, sapphire is capable of withstanding particles such as sand traveling at high speeds.

Meller Large Sapphire Windows are priced according to size and quantity; offered in prototype through production quantities. Literature and price quotations are available upon request.
