Overview
The IBM TotalStorage(TM) SAN Switch family is designed to facilitate scalable network growth in a modular, cost-effective, and non-disruptive manner. The following new optional features are added to the IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch family:
o Advanced Security Activation
o Fabric Manager V4.

The IBM SAN Switch optional Advanced Security Activation feature is designed to enable policy-based security mechanisms integrated within Fabric Operating System V2.6, V3.1, and V4.1. When activated across the IBM SAN Switch Fabric, Advanced Security Activation is designed to provide the following security capabilities:
o Centralized security management (trusted switches)
o Fabric-wide security policies to control access
o Port and Switch level access control
o Management access controls (Telnet, SNMP, HTTP, API)
o Encryption of management data such as passwords
o Strong and non-reputable authentication between switches

The optional Fabric Manager V4.0 feature is designed to help simplify management of up to eight fabrics and is designed to provide enhanced security management, additional RAS features, and call home capabilities. For customers who have already purchased Fabric Manager, a Field Upgrade option is provided to assist field support.

Several no-additional-charge enhancements are designed to provide IBM SAN Switch Models F32 and M12 using Fabric OS 4.1, concurrent code load, non-disruptive code activation, and enhanced failover support capabilities. Refer to the Description section of this announcement for more details.

Description
Fabric Manager V4.0 (#7203)
The IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch Fabric Manager V4.0 optional feature is designed to provide enhanced capabilities to the Java(TM)-based Fabric Manager application to simplify management of up to eight fabrics. The new Fabric Manager V4.0 optional feature is also designed to provide enhanced security management, additional RAS features, and call home capabilities. Fabric Manager V4.0 requires a Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Solaris 7 server with a Netscape or Internet Explorer Web browser.

Fabric Manager V4.0 is available for all models of the IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch family 2109 Models F16, F32, and M12, and 3534 Model F08.

Fabric Manager V4.0 Field Upgrade (#7204)
The IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch Fabric Manager V4.0 Field Upgrade optional feature lets you upgrade to the new version of Fabric Manager V4.0. The Fabric Manager V4.0 Field Upgrade is available as a MES, for the IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch 2109 Models F16, F32, and M12.

The IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch Advanced Security Activation optional features enable policy-based security mechanisms integrated within Fabric Operating System V2.6, V3.1, and V4.1. To enable Advanced Security capabilities, all switches within the IBM SAN Switches Fabric must be configured with their respective Fabric OS version (2.6, 3.1, and 4.1) before activating the Advanced Security optional feature license key. When activated across the IBM SAN Switch Fabric, the Advanced Security Activation feature is designed to provide the following security capabilities:
o Centralized security management (trusted switches)
o Fabric-wide security policies to control access
o Port-level access control
o Switch-level access control
o Management access controls (Telnet, SNMP, HTTP, API)
o Encryption of management data such as passwords

Fabric OS V2.6, V3.1, V4.1 Enhancements
With IBM SAN Switch Models F32 and M12 using Fabric OS V4.1, you get, at no-additional-charge, high-availability, concurrent code load, non-disruptive activation, and enhanced failover capabilities. With all IBM SAN Switch models using Fabric OS V2.6, V3.1, and V4.1 you get the following enhancements at no additional charge:
o Enhanced manageability
o New Kernel Error Reporting
o New and updated Telnet Commands
o Time Server Synchronization
o New WebTools GUI capabilities
o Fabric Watch Health Check

Statement of General Direction
With the introduction of enhanced high-availability capabilities, the IBM TotalStorage SAN Switch Model M12 is now designed to provide an Enterprise Fabric Operating Environment, with capabilities designed to enable future support for mainframe FICON(TM) switching with FICON Control Unit Port (CUP) support.

The latest high-availability enhancements for the IBM M12 SAN Switch include support for concurrent code load, non-disruptive code activation, and enhanced control processor failover. Advanced call home management is included in Fabric Manager V4.0, as well as Secure Fabric OS features highlighting access control at the port, switch, and fabric levels.

Based on the Brocade Communications Systems roadmap, phased release will add FICON switching capability to the IBM M12 SAN Switch.
