JLT Mobile Computers Unveils G-Force 850 Ruggedized Tablet PC

Pioneering 8.4-Inch (diag.) Unit Offers Lightweight, Affordable Toughness For Industrial, Public Safety, Military, Aviation Applications

CHANDLER, AZ -- JLT Mobile Computers, Inc., a leading provider of ruggedized mobile PCs for governmental, industrial, and business applications, has debuted its first entry into the burgeoning ruggedized tablet PC category-the G-Force 850, a powerful, convenient, lightweight, and ultra-tough PC that will redefine versatility and convenience for thousands of heavy industrial, military, field service, and public safety users.

Featuring an 8.4" (diagonal) poly-silicon transflective display that automatically brightens for viewing in direct sunlight and backlights to 120 nits for nighttime use, the G-Force 850 is a breakthrough in mobile computing. The highly portable unit weighs just 2.87 lbs., yet operates for five hours (full operation) or eight hours (using power-saving feature) on battery, thanks to the low-consumption Transmeta Crusoe TM5400 (600 MHz) CPU. All forms of wireless and/or radio modem communications are supported via a PCMCIA cardbus slot; the unit also comes in a 10-keypad version for easy, direct numeric data entry.

"With the G-Force 850, users don't have to give up ruggedness for utility or computing capability," said Todd Einck, president and CEO of JLT Mobile Computers, Inc. "This unit sits at the forefront of tablet PC engineering in every respect. It can take whatever the user dishes out, yet also support the advanced applications field personnel use today. Best of all, its price is extremely competitive with many tablet PCs that are far less rugged."

Powerful Technology
Built on the Windows XP Table PC embedded operating system, the G-Force 850 is designed for flexibility in a wide range of mobile deployments. It offers a resistive 5-wire SVGA (800 x 600) touch screen with one-touch conversion from portrait to landscape orientation; the PC also simultaneously supports external CRT and flat panel (TFT/DSTN) displays when needed.

A number of memory options are available as well. Standard SODIMM RAM memory is 64 MB, with 128-, and 256-, and future 512-MB upgrades available, while two CF type II slots each accommodate 256 MB flash memory (one for Windows XP use; the other, which can also be swapped with a 1+ GB micro drive, is for user applications).

The G-Force 850's cardbus slot supports any Type II PCMCIA card for 802.11b (Cisco, Lucent, Breezecom, Proxim, or Symbol) wireless as well as CDMA, CDPD, GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth, or GPS. In addition to USB and Firewire ports, the device accepts a docking connector for multiple peripheral and power hookups, and can run any PS/2-compatible mouse or keyboard. A hot-swappable Lithium-ion battery capability enables extended use.

Maximum Toughness
Designed for heavy-duty applications, the G-Force combines user-friendliness and durability for exceptional performance in any environment. Its fold-back protective cover features an X-shaped hand support that secures the unit to the user's free hand in landscape or portrait mode. On the front, user controls are recessed below the surrounding panel to prevent unintentional activation.

Operating temperatures for the G-Force 850 tablet PC are -5ºC to +45ºC, with acceptable storage temperatures ranging from -10ºC to +50ºC. The case is sealed to IP-65 for total protection from dust and low-pressure jets or water; with its cover in place, the G-Force 850 can withstand total water immersion or firehouse-strength spraying. What's more, the PC is durable enough to sustain a three-foot drop onto concrete (case open) and even higher drops with the case closed.

JLT Mobile Computer's G-Force 850 is ideal for daily use by utility workers, food/beverage or other delivery personnel, police/fire, airline mechanics and baggage handlers, military personnel, and surveying or construction professionals, among others. Its vibration and shock standards qualify it for the toughest onboard use including helicopters, motorcycles, yachts-even battle tanks.

Mid-Q1 Availability
Featuring dimensions of 9.45" x 6.7" x 1.8" (240mm x 170mm x 45mm), the G-Force 850 is expected to begin shipping in mid-Q1 of 2003. A second G-Force model offering a 10.4" (diagonal) display will also be available in mid-Q3.

JLT Mobile Computer's G-Force 850 has already logged heavy pre-sales commitments from a number of companies in the industrial and mobile services fields.
