ADLINK Introduces MilSystem(TM) 800 for Extreme Rugged(TM) Applications

MIL-STD-D38999 connectors target military defense electronics

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 11 /- ADLINK Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of trusted embedded computers, today announced the availability of the MilSystem(TM) 800 Extreme Rugged(TM) COTS military computer. MilSystem 800 leverages the proven design of the RuffSystem(TM) 800 and uses MIL-STD-D38999 connectors instead of PC-style connectors to maximize the reliability of connections between the computer system and peripherals for the most extreme environmental conditions.

MilSystem 800 consists of the Ampro(TM) by ADLINK LittleBoard(TM) 800 single board computer (SBC) in a MIL-STD-810 tested RuffSystem enclosure. The system supports up to a 1.4 GHz Pentium(R) M CPU and provides conductive cooling, requiring no fans or holes for ventilation. MilSystem 800 is dust-proof and splash-proof.

"Extreme Rugged COTS systems require extreme rugged connections. MIL-STD connectors allow MilSystems to be deployed in stationary, mobile, and airborne military applications," said PJ Go, general manager, ADLINK. "A rugged-by-design system must include a rugged-by-design SBC, as shock-mounting alone is not enough for reliable operation overloads."

MilSystem 800 comes in a 8" x 10" x 3" conductive cooled enclosure that has been tested to MIL-STD-810 for shock and vibration, and tested over a wide temperature range of -40 to +75 degrees Celsius. The short height allows installation under seats and in other locations where cube-shaped and rack-mount systems cannot fit. Built-in I/O includes Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports, video, audio and PS/2 keyboard-mouse all on two MIL-STD-D38999 style 55-pin connectors. A third connector is available for an additional 55 I/O signals.

MilSystem 800 supports up to 1 GB of DDR memory and can be configured with any combination of up to 32 GB of rugged solid-state drive, up to 16 GB of rugged-grade CompactFlash(TM) memory card, or an extreme environment hard drive. MilSystem is offered with Embedded Linux(R), Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Embedded, and Microsoft Windows CE operating systems.

ADLINK subjects Extreme Rugged SBCs to voltage and temperature margin testing and HALT testing in order to fine-tune the design for harsh system environments, including shock, vibration, humidity, and -40 to +75 degrees Celsius operation. Extreme Rugged SBCs target applications where failures would have dire consequences.

Availability

Samples of the MilSystem will be available in late Q1. Contact ADLINK for pricing.
