SKF(R) Hybrid Cylindrical Roller Bearings Can Optimize High-Speed Spindle Performance

BETHLEHEM, PA, February 22, 2002 -- A new hybrid series of SKF® high-precision single-row silicon nitride cylindrical roller bearings from SKF Machine Tool Precision Technology is specially designed to promote high speed and high rigidity in spindles for machining and milling applications.

These new SKF hybrid single-row cylindrical roller bearings feature several design innovations, including small-diameter ceramic rollers to reduce the centrifugal load and improve bearing kinematics; a patented and highly engineered polymer cage for excellent wear resistance, low friction, and good stability at high speeds; and a tapered bore for preload/clearance adjustment to enable easy and accurate preload setting.

Their use can additionally improve machining performance by eliminating a need for complicated arrangements involving loose housing fits or sliding bushings, which typically compromise stiffness.

The new SKF hybrid bearings are available in bore sizes ranging from 40mm to 120mm. Their design allows the bearings to reach a reference speed of 1.8 million Ndm when light-loaded and oil-air lubricated.
