RÖHM Unveils New Power Chuck for Today’s Advanced Turning Center Spindles

SUWANEE, Ga., October 12, 2018 – RÖHM Products of America, one of the leading providers of clamping and gripping technology, has announced the world premiere of the new DURO-A RC power chuck at AMB 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany. The new power chuck reduces setup times considerably thanks to its quick jaw-change system that allows the jaws to be adjusted, reversed, or swapped out in just 50 seconds. The DURO-A RC also comes with a new three-year warranty and provides a competitive price-performance ratio.

Designed to meet the needs of manufacturers as turning centers with integrated spindle motor technology become more common, the DURO-A RC power chuck unlocks the full potential of those machines. Traditional power chucks often cannot keep up with newer spindles’ rotational speeds and acceleration/deceleration rates due to the heavy weight and loss of dynamic clamping force of those chucks.

To overcome this challenge, the DURO-A RC’s billet steel body has a compact, lightweight design, with an overall height that is reduced by 14%. It boasts centrifugal force compensation that allows for fast speeds and feeds, as well as power consumption savings of up to 17 percent. The chuck’s interchangeable back plate further ensures convenient adaptability to fit to a wide range of lathe spindles.

With the quick jaw-change system and individual unlocking, the jaws can be adjusted, reversed, or swapped in just 50 seconds. A decisive competitive factor, quick-change capabilities unlock significant process improvements by eliminating a common bottleneck in manufacturing. Visitors to RÖHM’s booth at AMB 2018 had the opportunity to prove this in real time thanks to the company’s “Done in 60 Seconds” setup challenge, which offered prizes for the visitors who could accomplish the fastest jaw changes.
