Munich, March 25, 2011 - At this year's NAB trade fair in Las Vegas, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its successful product portfolio for the ATSC Mobile DTV, ISDB-T(B) and DVB-T2 digital standards. The established market leader offers broadcasting and T&M solutions for the world's most common digital broadcasting standards. First mobile digital TV networks are now being launched - with Rohde & Schwarz transmitters.
The successful R&S AEM100 multiplexer plays a central role in ATSC Mobile DTV networks. Rohde & Schwarz now offers a unique redundancy concept, the first to enable uninterrupted switching between two multiplexers in the event of a fault. TV viewers will continue to enjoy their program without any noticeable effect on transmission quality.
Rohde & Schwarz has also added new products to its T&M portfolio. The R&S ETL from Rohde & Schwarz is the first test solution for ATSC Mobile DTV. The TV analyzer features new functions for performing all the measurements required when installing TV transmitters and cable headends. The R&S ETL is also ideal for QA testing of transmitters and modulators during production.
Another innovation is the drive test, which is performed by the R&S ETL using the R&S BCDRIVE software option. With this solution, transmitter network operators can measure network coverage and immediately identify critical zones. The software supports all of today's common digital broadcasting standards, including DVB-T/H, ATSC Mobile DTV, ISDB-T and ISDB-T(B).
Rohde & Schwarz has also expanded its R&S DVMS digital TV monitoring family. The IP interface allows monitoring of IP transport streams fed to transmitter stations. The R&S DVMS is currently the most compact instrument on the market. The 1 HU instrument can simultaneously monitor up to four signals, depending on the model.
At NAB, operators of ISDB-T and ISDB-T(B) TV networks can learn about solutions for transmitter installation and functionality testing. Monitoring and analysis tools for MPEG transport streams will also be presented. These tools are required for QA testing of transport stream feeding and distribution.
Rohde & Schwarz will be conducting live demonstrations of comprehensive software for the offline analysis of compressed audio and video signals and MPEG-2 transport streams. The software supports numerous coding formats, including MPEG-2, H.264 and AVS for video as well as MPEG-2, Dolby AC3 and Dolby Digital Plus for audio. At the transport stream level, DVB, ATSC and ISDB are supported. Broadcast operators and service providers can use this software to optimize content since it helps them to find and eliminate faults. Manufacturers of DTV components can use the software to check conformity with standards, perform QA tests and improve performance.
Rohde & Schwarz can be found at booth SU 3721 in the South Upper Hall. A press breakfast will be held on April 11, 2011, at 9:00 a.m.
