New P-50 Robot Offers Maximum Performance and Affordable Solution for Coating Applications

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Oct. 1, 2003 - FANUC Robotics will highlight its compact and affordable new P-50 coating robot at Composites 2003, Oct. 1-3 in Anaheim, Calif., booth #1030.

The new P-50's design is based on the success of nine generations of coating robots the company has offered since 1982. It offers precise, reliable, and affordable coating solutions to a wide range of industries, including consumer goods, appliances and automotive components.

The P-50's small size and multiple mounting methods make it ideal for companies with floor space limitations. With a maximum horizontal reach of 1360 mm, and coating speeds as high as 1500 mm per second, the P-50 has more useable workspace, and faster acceleration than any other coating robot in its class.

According to Barton Faylor, FANUC Robotics' paint industry manager, the P-50 is extremely easy to setup, use, and maintain. "This robot is perfect for a variety of applications including general industrial coating, dispensing, lens coating, mask painting, and many more. Its speed and long reach help minimize cycle times and lower overall production costs."

"We've taken over 20 years of robotic painting and coating experience and engineered this robot to meet our customers' requirements for flexibility, performance and cost," added Faylor.

The P-50 offers a wide range of process advantages that help maximize system performance, including:

· Accuflow(TM) closed-loop fluid delivery automatically maintains programmed flow rates, which provides consistent material delivery and higher finish quality.
· Collision Guard(TM) monitors for unexpected interference to reduce machine and applicator damage and maximize uptime.
· Optional micro valve color changer for short color change times and waste reduction.
· Ability to use manifold-mount robot spray guns and rotary atomizers.
· Optional WinOLPC, a Windows-based graphical programming interface for viewing, editing and teaching positions using the teach pendant.

"The bottom line to users is unmatched performance at a surprisingly affordable price," added Faylor. "The performance of our painting and coating solutions have convinced hundreds of customers to adopt robots as an alternative to hard automation or manual labor."

At the show, the P-50 will demonstrate its speed and accuracy in a system that simulates applying gel coat to a vanity sink.
