New UHF Reader Extends Siemens' RFID Portfolio



Nuremberg, Germany. A new compact smart reader has been launched to extend the RFID portfolio of the Siemens Industry Automation Division. With its large range of up to five meters, Simatic RF640R has been designed to suit the requirements of conveyor systems and production logistics.

The new Simatic RF640R RFID reader supports the global EPCglobal Class 1 Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C standard. Its high reading rate makes it particularly suitable for the most exacting RFID tasks at single acquisition terminals. Simatic RF640R has an integrated antenna, which allows a space saving, low maintenance and economic installation as well as operation.

The reader's high maximum transmission output ensures that major ranges of up to five meters can be covered. IT integration is possible via XML protocol via TCP/IP (Ethernet). The reader is conveniently configured using the attached, free of charge software Simatic RF-Manager Basic (Edition 2008 SP 3).

Alternatively, flexible system integration is possible via communication modules to
the different automation levels such as Simatic 7. Field devices can be connected
to the new RFID reader via two digital inputs and outputs each. The high IP65 protection rating ensures its safe use in the most hostile industrial environments.

The reader is available in three variants, complying with ETSI for use in Europe, FCC in USA and Canada, and CMIIT in China.
