Weber Introduces Exclusive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Smart Label Encoder-Applicator

Arlington Heights, IL -Weber Marking Systems, Inc., has announced the availability of its exclusive AlphaRFID smart label encoder-applicator, a system that encodes, verifies and applies pressure-sensitive RFID smart labels to items on the production or packaging line. In addition, if an RFID tag embedded in a smart label cannot be verified, the smart label is rejected before application and is retained on its liner.

This system, available only from Weber, provides smart labeling that will help users meet the emerging RFID supply chain requirements of major retailers and government agencies.

As a smart label is unwound from its supply roll, an RFID reader transmits digital information to the thin, ultra-high frequency (UHF) tag that is embedded between the pressure-sensitive label material and its liner. That information immediately is verified by the system and, if the tag is non-compliant, the applicator automatically disengages and the faulty smart label is rewound onto the unit's take-up roll for subsequent disposition.

The AlphaRFID applies smart labels up to 4.72" wide and 6" long accurate to a tolerance of ±0.04" utilizing the wipe-on method. The system can be oriented to apply smart labels to the tops or sides of cartons, trays and bundles as they pass by via conveyor. Its powerful stepper motor helps provide reliable system control.

Options include tamp-blow application, various product and label sensors, warning/alert light array, and an adjustable stand. Weber provides a wide range of blank and preprinted RFID smart labels that meet existing and emerging Electronic Product Code (EPC) specifications.
