Find Dirty Air and Suppress Interference with Aruba Networks' New Enterprise Analyzer

New tool troubleshoots Wi-Fi problems, analyzes the radio spectrum, identifies and classifies sources of interference

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 17, 2007 - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader
in secure mobility solutions, today announced the Enterprise Analyzer, a new tool that works in conjunction with Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) and wireless access points to troubleshoot Wi-Fi network problems and detect, identify and classify unauthorized devices, sources of radio interference, and radio jammers. In new installations the Enterprise Analyzer can help plan around sources of interference, while in existing networks the tool can help ensure that the Wi-Fi spectrum is available for its intended purpose. Uniquely, the Enterprise Analyzer can use existing Aruba access points to capture packets, report over-the-air voice quality-of-service (QoS), and detect congested channels. Spectrum analysis is provided via specialized sensors. The tool was developed in partnership with AirMagnet, a leader in wireless
network assurance solutions, and is available for shipping now.

Congestion, contention, and interference - what we call 'dirty air' - affect the performance and integrity of a business-critical wireless LAN," said Rajeev Shah, Aruba's wireless IDS product manager. "The Enterprise Analyzer is a single tool that can help network administrators troubleshoot Wi-Fi specific network problems using advanced packet capture and traffic analysis. The tool is designed to identify sources of interference anywhere within the Wi-Fi bands, all from a single console. Existing Aruba customers can use already installed Aruba access points to gather key performance statistics, adding specialized sensors should they wish to do supplemental spectrum analysis."

The spectrum analyzer's sensors leverage AirMagnet technology to capture signals within the Wi-Fi frequency range regardless of the source of origin, i.e., Bluetooth and Zigbee devices, microwave ovens, legacy frequency-hoppers, and even rogue access points operating at nonstandard frequencies. Aruba's ARM technology will then adjust the wireless LAN radio channels to avoid the sources of interference. The net result is a wireless network that operates with maximum efficiency. The Enterprise Analyzer's user interface provides a graphical display of the radio spectrum and locationing information, helpful features for visualizing the status of the air.

"The Wi-Fi spectrum is starting to resemble the air space over JFK airport, and it will only get worse as new 802.11n devices come to market," said Stan Schatt, Vice President and Wi-Fi Research Director at ABI Research. "While spectrum analysis has become routine for customers planning to deploy a Wi-Fi network, it will become an integral part of most enterprises' daily Wi-Fi network management because the 'dirty air' requires constant vigilance."
