GE Energy Announces Resistivity Tool for Down Hole Drilling
CALGARY, CANADA-June 9, 2004-GE Energy introduced the Centerfire(TM) Resistivity System this week at the Global Petroleum Show. GE Energy also announced today that Drillog Petro-Dynamics Limited, a Nigeria-based energy company, would take delivery of the first Centerfire system in June 2004.
Down hole resistivity systems provide formation evaluation data while the hole is being drilled. Resistivity measurements are used to determine the possible existence of oil or gas and, when used in conjunction with gamma ray information, provide insight into the type of formation through which the hole is being drilled.
Centerfire complements GE's existing fleet of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) systems and enables independent service companies to extend technology offerings, service new markets and allow for future growth.
The Centerfire resistivity system, developed and tested leveraging Six Sigma methodology, has successfully completed full-system testing of more than 500 drilling hours and more than 1,200 circulating hours. GE's MWD probe, used in conjunction with the Centerfire resistivity tool, is mounted above the resistivity collar for easy retrieval and data transmission to the surface. Three different tool sizes will be available with outside diameters of 4.75, 6.75 and 8.25 inches, allowing the tool to be used in a wide range of hole sizes.
GE Energy's resistivity tool combines multiple transmitter spacings and separate frequencies to allow the tool to automatically compensate for the effects of down hole temperature and pressure, creating more accurate and stable readings and reducing time spent with temperature characterization.

The system operates at temperatures up to 175 degrees Celsius in water and oil-based drilling fluids and in flow rates up to 1200gpm. The Centerfire Resistivity tool utilizes its own battery power and can be run independently of the the MWD Probe to produce recorded measurements from a wiper trip.
The MWD system is designed for easy and efficient transportation to the jobsite. The system's modular design provides MWD services in a single, flexible system with a variety of collar diameters, from 3.5" to 9.5", to accommodate flow ranges from 75 to 1200 gpm. Additionally, GE Energy's MWD solution is fully retrievable, minimizing rig downtime and financial risk.
