Avocent Introduces Remote Server Device - SwitchView IP Provides Anytime, Anywhere Access and Control Over TCP/IP Connections

NEW YORK, June 18, 2003 -- Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), today announced it will demonstrate its new SwitchView IP remote access device at CeBIT America June 18-20. Setting a new price and performance level for single port KVM OVER IP appliances at $995 (MSRP U.S.), the SwitchView IP is a hardware solution that adds remote access to current KVM switching systems. SwitchView IP allows business to leverage the investment of their current KVM switch and provides the ability to access and control servers from any location using a web browser.

SwitchView IP expands Avocent's KVM OVER IP switching solutions, providing existing KVM customers with secure, BIOS-level, console access to multiple servers, anywhere, anytime. Administrators can even monitor the entire reboot cycle of a computer from any location using their web browser.

"One of the greatest benefits for our customers is that they don't have to choose a 'one size fits all' IP solution for
managing servers and network devices in their business," said Gary Johnson, senior vice president-global branded sales.
"There are thousands of customers worldwide who already have a KVM switch who need an affordable way to add remote
access. With SwitchView IP, we have an IP-based offering customized for any size business and any size IT budget."

Unlike software remote access solutions, the SwitchView IP does not require an agent running on each target server and
does not involve licensing fees for each server. This device provides out-of-band access, so servers are available even if
the network is down. It maintains secure remote connections using industry standard 128bit SSL encryption.

Avocent's KVM OVER IP switching technology is now integrated into each of its most popular product lines: SwitchView,
AutoView and DS Series. Avocent's advanced systems feature the ability to control hundreds of PS/2, Sun and USB
servers, routers and power devices, all over standard IP connections. Additional pricing and product details are available
