Sharp Microelectronics Announces New Lines of Phototriac Couplers and Solid State Relays
Components feature new innovations in AC switching and control
CAMAS, Wash., December 3, 2002 - Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas announces new innovations in its Solid State Relay (SSR) and Phototriac Coupler product categories. These new components offer North American design engineers the widest selection of AC switching and control components for the growing HVAC, appliance, industrial and manufacturing equipment markets. The company introduced a new line of 8-pin DIP SSRs for small power requirements, and new PC2 and PC3 lines of DIP-4 and DIP-6 Phototriac Couplers, which have as low as 3 mA triggering current and lower power.
In developing the new lines of SSRs and Phototriac Couplers, Sharp Corporation, Osaka Japan, leveraged its original in-line manufacturing process. This streamlined process is unique to Sharp and greatly improves supply and availability, allowing Sharp to offer low cost and high performing parts to its customers.

Solid State Relays
Sharp's new line of small power 8-pin DIP SSRs feature both zero-cross and non-zero cross type. These parts join Sharp's existing SSR components, including the popular S102T02 SSR component made exclusively by Sharp. Sharp's SSR components drive current ranging from 60 mA to 16A. They are a more cost-effective alternative to electromechanical relays, and offer grater noise immunity and longer life since they have no moving parts. A 1.2A 8-pin DIP SSR is also available for mid-range power requirements. Applications include home appliances, vending machines, sanitation and AC load control.

Phototriac Couplers
Sharp's new PC2 and PC3 lines of DIP-6 and expanded DIP-4 Phototriac Couplers fit the same footprint as the current industry standard parts, but offer improved performance in terms of noise immunity, triggering current and lower power.
Sharp offers the widest range of phototriac couplers in several package sizes. These include Standard DIP-4, a 200V line with and without Zero cross functionality; Standard DIP-5/6 100V and 200V lines with and without Zero cross functionality; and SOP-4 surface mount package requiring less board space. Applications include vending machines, heating apparatus, SW power supply and SSRs.
