New Toughness and Tear Resistance with Uniquely Reinforced Sandpaper

Abrasives manufacturer NaxoFlex has created the world's first polyester-reinforced paper-backed abrasive belts. The result is tougher, longer lasting sandpaper able to withstand side contact and other mechanical forces that often lead to annoying and costly premature tears.

This innovative use of strong polyester reinforcing fibers makes it possible to replace many cloth-backed products with significant savings. "No other manufacturer has a comparable solution offering the combined benefits of excellent finishing, reduced clogging, high tear resistance and longer life," says Curt Frid, Manager of Sales and Marketing at NaxoFlex.

The two new G-weight sanding papers are called G247 TL and G 845 TL. Due to their high strength the papers are suitable for most sanding operations where cloth products and combinations are used. "According to our experience, this backing has proved to be even stronger than competing cloth-backed products on the market. Ultimately, it's less expensive than cloth, with at least the same working life," Frid continues. "For the G 247 TL paper we anticipate strong interest from floor-sanding specialists who insist on predictable surface quality as well as the ability to calibrate thicknesses. It also works very well on MDF and particleboard. The G 845 TL papers are recommended for wide belts, cross belts and all other types of narrow belts, particularly those used for softwood sanding operations."

The G 247 TL line features a semi-open coat of silicon carbide and is available in 24, 36 and 40 grit. The G 845 TL line features an open coat of aluminum oxide and is available in 40 and 60 through 180 grit. Both are fixed to the paper and polyester substrate with a resin-over-resin bond.

Tests also reveal that the sanding finish created by the new papers is better than results from corresponding cloth products. This is due to the fact that the paper backing has a smoother surface, which, in turn, yields a more even coating.
