Radio Transmitter IC covers all geographic regions.

Press Release Summary:

Available in 4 x 4 mm MLF® package, Model MICRF405 radio transmitter IC offers both ASK/OOK and FSK modulation and covers all four sub-GHz bands (315, 433, 868, and 915 MHz). Chip supports migration from ASK/OOK modulation solutions to FSK devices while retaining backwards compatibility with legacy ASK systems. It targets high-end remote keyless entry, automatic meter reading, building automation, and industrial control applications.

Micrel Introduces Market's Most Power-Efficient Radio Transmitter IC

RadioWire® MICRF405 Consumes 30 Percent Less Battery Power

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 11 / / -- Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today launched the MICRF405, the industry's most power-efficient radio transmitter IC in its class. The MICRF405 is the latest in Micrel's family of low-power RadioWire® radio solutions and complements Micrel's MICRF505/506 line of low-power radio transceivers. The compact, low-cost device is designed to cover all geographic regions and is targeted at high-end remote keyless entry, automatic meter reading, building automation and industrial control. The chip is currently sampling with volume quantities available in second quarter of 2006. Development kits are also available for all applicable frequency bands. Pricing for the IC is $1.48 for 10K quantities.

"Most available RF transmitters are less power-efficient forcing designers to make a tradeoff between transmission range and battery life," noted Stein Eskerud, Managing Director of Micrel Norway. "The new MICRF405 typically consumes 30 percent less battery power at the same transmission range as existing solutions, enabling customers to significantly increase battery life in their applications without compromising link performance."

The MICRF405 features the lowest power consumption in its class. It also offers both ASK/OOK and FSK modulation and covers all four sub-GHz bands (315, 433, 868 and 915 MHz). The solution comes in a small 4x4 mm MLF® package and has fewer external components than ICs currently on the market. Additionally, the MICRF405 addresses the trend of migrating from simple ASK/OOK modulation solutions to FSK devices that feature higher output power and longer range. The chip supports this migration while retaining backwards compatibility with legacy ASK systems.
