Rackmount PDUs feature amp meter and remote switching.

Press Release Summary:

Switched Power Distribution Units incorporate amp metering that enables network administrators to turn 16 outlets on and off, reboot individual equipment, and monitor current and voltage, all from remote location. Administrators can assign over 100 unique users with full or individually assigned access for configuration and control of PDUs through Web browser, command line interface, SNMP, or Telnet interfaces. LED readout relays cumulative load current.

MGE Introduces Rackmount Power Distribution Units With AmpMeter and Remote Switching Capabilities

New PDUs Offer Current Monitoring and Remote Control for Power Outlets in Data Centers, Server Farms, ISPs and Collocation Facilities

Costa Mesa, Calif. - September 14, 2005 - In its ongoing mission to bring the highest level of availability to today's power-dense computer networked environments, MGE UPS SYSTEMS INC., the technology leader in providing unsurpassed power protection solutions to computer data centers, telecommunications and industrial operations, has announced the launch of its new Switched Power Distribution Units (PDUs). The new PDUs incorporate amp metering that allow network administrators to conveniently turn on and off up to 16 outlets, reboot individual equipment and monitor current and voltage all from a remote location - greatly maximizing uptime of servers and internetworking equipment. The new PDUs are ideal for optimizing power consumption and forecasting in telco facilities, financial network systems and corporate and industrial environments.

Locked-up equipment, unauthorized use of power outlets, in-rush current, overloaded circuits, and the need to easily access power outlets in the rack are everyday challenges in today's IT environments. MGE's new PDUs eliminate these problems and provide IT administrators a quick and simple way to distribute power from Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) to connected rack equipment. As power requirements in data centers are constantly changing, the PDUs offer the user a convenient method of controlling and managing power thereby maximizing efficiencies and overall system uptime.

Administrators are able to assign over 100 unique users with full or individually assigned access. Users can remotely access, configure, and control the Switched PDUs through MGE's Web browser, command line interface, SNMP, or Telnet interfaces. Utilizing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure Web access or Secure Shell (SSH) for command line entry, administrators have protected yet full configuration and administration of the PDU. Through MGE's Web browser or command line interface, users can remotely turn on/off and reboot systems, monitor input current as well as check temperature and humidity - essential in crowded rack environments. In addition, accurate, real-time measurement of the cumulative load current (draw) can be seen either on the PDU's LED readout or through the secure Web browser in order to determine the remaining power capacity and if additional equipment can be added safely. SNMP traps can be triggered when current exceeds predefined thresholds. Power-up outlet sequencing prevents in-rush current overload as well as inadvertent tripping of circuit breakers.

Using only 1U of rack space or zero-U in the vertical configuration, MGE's switched PDU can control up to 16 outlets individually or by groups and offers the most features of any PDU on the market today.

For users not needing remote switching or monitoring capabilities, MGE offers two economical AmpMeter PDU models that can accommodate up to 24 receptacles with branch circuit protection as well as local input current monitoring. The AmpMeter PDU features aggregate input current monitoring and branch circuit protection.

All models include appropriately rated NEMA standard twist-lock input connectors and NEMA 20A or IEC C13 (model RSNM-T16-202 only) output receptacles. Both Switched and AmpMeter PDUs feature heavy-duty construction and are made in the U.S.A.

Available now, list pricing starts at $582 for the Switched PDU models. Three 16 amp models are available with input voltages from 110-120 and 208-230. The AmpMeter units are available in 16 and 24 amp models with list prices from $332. The new PDUs meet worldwide standards for safety and performance including UL and cUL and offer a two year warranty.
