Original Press Release:

New HP UPS R5500 XR Rack-Mount Packs 5000 VA and 4500 Watts in Just 3U - 5.25 Inches

(Houston - March 8, 2004) Hewlett-Packard Company (www.hp.com/products/ups) unveiled the HP UPS R5500 XR - the power industry's smallest and most power efficient 5000VA rack-mount uninterruptible power system (UPS) - designed for customers who want to provide power protection in space-constrained environments. The 5000 VA UPS delivers 4500 watts and combines both hot swap batteries and hot swap electronics into just 3U (5.25 inches). International units deliver 6000 VA and 5400 watts. With a unique electronic design using digital signal processors rather than a transformer, the HP UPS R5500 XR weighs in at 30% less than typical industry models and also provides voltage regulation without using the battery. Option cards are also available for SNMP, networking, multi-server and operating system control.

Additional high-availability features for easy UPS service without powering down protected equipment include: field flash-upgradeable firmware, a battery Extended Runtime Module, an automatic bypass mode, and two independently controlled load segments.

The HP UPS R5500 XR ships with a free copy of the new HP Rack and Power Management Software. Working in conjunction with the UPS, the HP Rack and Power Management Software allows users to have the flexibility to configure scheduled startups and orderly shutdowns of the protected equipment. Using the software, receptacles on the back of the HP UPS R5500 XR can be grouped into load segments to allow network managers to individually tailor the power configuration for each computer device plugged into the load segments. HP Rack and Power Management Software supports most operating systems.

Sold through Authorized Dealers, the HP UPS R5500 XR is available in US and worldwide configurations at an Internet List Price of $3,099 and includes a three-year warranty. Pricing may vary by country or region.
