Quantum to Demonstrate SDLT 600A Professional Video Drive in File-Based Workflow Applications at NAB 2006

Widespread Product Integration Underscores Its Broadening Industry Impact

LAS VEGAS, April 24 /Quantum Corp. (NYSE:DSS), a global leader in storage, today announced that its new award-winning SDLT 600A Professional Video Drive will be integrated as the key video storage component in many file-based workflow solutions at NAB 2006. These workflow solutions will be demonstrated in Quantum's booth (#SU 783) in the Las Vegas Convention Center, as well as in numerous partner booths.

"Our integration efforts with many partners emphasize the broadening impact of Quantum's SDLT 600A on the broadcast industry," said Mark Ostlund, director of rich media storage for Quantum. "We are delighted that our product is being demonstrated at NAB 2006 in a wide variety of file-based workflow applications -- from broadcast news and playout archiving to production archiving. This growing acceptance validates the important role Quantum plays in enabling both the access and exchange of video content."

Quantum's SDLT 600A is the first data tape drive enhanced for professional video, featuring a tape-based file system and network-attached storage that is MXF(1)-aware to provide the ideal data tape solution for today's file-based workflows. Each 300 GB capacity tape cartridge is designed to hold more than six hours of High Definition (HD) content recorded at 100 Mb/sec and carries its own file system directory, allowing direct drag and drop access by applications on the network without the need for other software. With built-in Gigabit Ethernet capability, the SDLT 600A is also network-attached, permitting direct access by every workstation and server on the network. Being MXF-aware enables video tape-like access to subclips by timecode, fast access to metadata stored on the tape and an unprecedented level of interoperability between applications and environments.

Super DLTtape II® Data Cartridge

The Quantum SDLT 600A professional video drive uses Super DLTtape II data tape, a standard IT data cartridge which provides a native capacity of 300 GB. A single Super DLTtape II cartridge can accommodate more than 25 hours of DV25 content (a common form of digital reduction and compression employed in digital camcorders), with faster-than-real-time transfer rates of up to 288 Mb/sec. Secure yet accessible, each tape is designed to have a robust 30-year archival life that ensures the longevity of critical video content while allowing tapes to be easily moved between libraries, stand-alone drives and even facilities.
