QUALCOMM Expands Reach of EV-DO Rev. A Mobile Broadband Smartphones


SAN DIEGO, March 27 // -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the expansion of its product lineup to enable mainstream CDMA2000(R) Smartphones. QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM7525(TM) for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A devices will enable cost-effective Smartphones with advanced capabilities to be more readily affordable to wireless users. QUALCOMM's MSM7525 chipset is scheduled to sample in the third quarter of this year, and handsets based on the chipset are expected to go into production by the end of 2008.

The MSM7525 solution's dual-processor architecture allows the MSM7525 to be capable of supporting the BREW(R) 4.0 client, as well as popular third- party operating systems including Windows Mobile(R) and Linux. Integrated gpsOne(R) technology enables Smartphones based on the MSM7525 chipset to feature assisted-GPS and standalone-GPS supporting a wide range of location services. Devices based on QUALCOMM's MSM7525 solution can also leverage advanced mobile broadband networks with support for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A and backward compatibility to EV-DO Rel. 0 and CDMA2000 1X. The advanced multimedia features on the MSM7525 chipset include 5.0 megapixel camera, 30fps WQVGA video recording/playback and compatibility with most popular audio/video codecs. The MSM7525 solution features a compact 11mm x 11mm package size.
