QUALCOMM Announces Additional Chipset Support for WorldMode Global Roaming Capabilities for CDMA2000 Subscribers

LAS VEGAS, CTIA Booth #2047, Hall C4/C5, April 5 /FirstCall/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced that additional Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) chipsets will now support WorldMode(R) global roaming capabilities to enable mobile handsets that connect to both CDMA2000(R) and GSM/GPRS networks. Mobile handsets can now leverage these solutions for worldwide roaming capabilities while also being slimmer, more power efficient and more affordable compared to previous multi-mode, multi-band designs.
QUALCOMM will offer WorldMode support with the complete MSM6125(TM), MSM6500(TM) and MSM6550(TM) solutions, which include the new RTR6350(TM) device and RFR6500(TM) device for simultaneous-GPS and receive diversity, and are expected to commence sampling in the third quarter of 2006.

Mobile handsets based on WorldMode-capable chipsets from the Company's mainstream Multimedia and Enhanced Multimedia platforms support voice, multimedia and data connectivity to CDMA2000 (with the MSM6125 chipset), as well as EV-DO networks (with the MSM6500 and MSM6550 solutions which are backward compatible to CDMA2000 networks) while also fully supporting voice and data capabilities on GSM/GPRS networks. The availability of integrated chipsets on multiple tiers enables manufacturers to more quickly design handsets offering a seamless experience of global roaming for a wide variety of market segments, in a slim form factor with rich functionality and affordable price points.
The new RTR6350 transceiver, together with the RFR6500 device, features transmit and receive functionality on CDMA2000 and EV-DO networks in the following frequencies:
o 800 MHz (cellular band)
o 1900 MHz (PCS band)
Transceiver functionality is featured on GSM/GPRS networks in the following frequencies:
o 850 MHz
o 900 MHz
o 1800 MHz
o 1900 MHz
