NKK Switches Unveils Subminiature Pushbutton Switches

Scottsdale, Ariz (June 9, 2003) - Expanding its portfolio of premier electromechanical switches, NKK Switches today introduced the A-Series of washable, subminiature pushbutton switches, which are one-third the size of traditional miniature switches and designed specifically for PC board-level switching applications.

The A-Series pushbutton switches incorporate NKK's award-winning Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism which stands at the forefront of logic-level reliability in switches. This contact design ensures unparalleled switching reliability and a smoother positive detent action. The pushbuttons were specifically designed for logic-level applications with limited board space and are the first switch products approved by the Quality Assessment System of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IECQ).

NKK's A-Series of pushbuttons are process sealed, enabling them to withstand automated wave soldering, washing and processing techniques prevalent in today's finished products manufacture and assembly. The terminals are molded in and epoxy-sealed to lock out flux, solvents and other contaminants. The case housing is constructed of glass reinforced polyamide.

The A-series of pushbuttons are available in both single-pole and double-pole models. Momentary circuits can be specified in single- or double-throw configurations. Engineers can specify from several different mounting options, which include straight PC in-bracketed and unbracketed models, vertical and right-angle mounts. The breadth of this series enables designers to configure to specifications depending upon the challenges faced. The body of the pushbutton is merely .516 inches in height. The single-pole version is .230 inches deep while the double-pole is .362 inches high. These measurements include a smooth bushing length of .177". The terminals are .100X.100-inch and conform to standard PC board grids for easier layout.

Engineers can specify from three different plunger lengths allowing them design flexibility. The standard plunger color is white, however the A-Series is also available in red or black options. Caps are available in two different diameters, either .201- or .295-inches. Matching indicators with LEDs in red, amber or green are also offered.

The A-Series pushbuttons are rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. The mechanical and electrical life ratings are 50,000 operations minimum. The contact timing is non-shorting and the nominal operating force is 260 grams.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches.
