Unique, New Snap-In Panel Sealed Pushbutton Switches Easily Handle Tough Applications, Environments

Harwood Heights, Ill. - A unique, new series of panel sealed pushbutton switches designed to handle demanding, harsh environments has been introduced by ITW Switches, an Illinois Tool Works Company. This versatile new series features a basic switch element that snaps in behind the button so that designers can specify a single-pole or double-pole switch behind the same sealed pushbutton.

Available with three button colors (red, green, black), ITW Switches' new Series 49-59 Sealed Pushbutton Switches are extremely well-suited for applications including communications, instrumentation, data processing, military environments, environmentally demanding keypads, and mass transport controls.

Series 49-59 switches are offered with a choice of round or square bezels. Bodies and buttons are made from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), a hard-wearing thermoplastic polyester suitable for surface or sublimation printing or engraving. PBT also is flame-retardant and UL rated. Other features include a wide temperature range -- up to 221°F (105°C) -- and an industrial standard 0.63 in. (16.0mm) panel cut out size. The panel sealed Series 49-59 switches carry the IP67 immersion rating and exceed NEMA 4X.

The 49-59 pushbutton switches provide momentary action, and connections are made via solder terminals at the rear of the switch. The snap-in switch elements are UL listed and CSA certified and feature silver or gold contacts with current-carrying capacities up to 1OA. Exact current ratings are (silver contacts) from 3A at 28VDC to 1 OA at 125VAC and (enhanced gold contacts) from 8A at 28VDC to 6A at 115VAC.

ITW Switches manufactures a wide variety of proprietary, standard, and custom electrical switches -- pushbutton, rocker, paddle, slide, leaf, snap-action, and sealed -- for worldwide markets including telecommunication, machine tool, automotive, appliance, entertainment, aerospace, and computer products. ISO 9001 Certified and headquartered near Chicago, the company has three other facilities worldwide: Portsmouth, England; Taiwan, Republic of China; and Singapore.
