New Purging Compound Offers Improved Performance, Cost Savings
[Parsippany, NJ -- A new purging compound for polypropylene-based resins is delivering enhanced cleaning performance in plastic injection molding equipment and extruders, while offering cost savings of as much as 50% when compared to purging with incoming resin. Asaclean® UP Grade was developed specifically for improved cleaning and efficiency in PP operations, designed to remove tough deposits and prevent screw pulls. The new compound helps to ensure fast, complete transitions from one color or resin to another.
With an operating temperature range from 340°F-570°F (170°C-300°C), Asaclean UP Grade can be used to purge to and from PP-based resins, or as a shutdown sealant prior to polyolefin processing to help remove contamination. The new compound from Asaclean - Sun Plastech Inc. is a proprietary blend of additives in an olefinic resin, supplied in a convenient pellet form.
"This new compound delivers excellent cleaning ability and very low residue characteristics in hot runner cleaning of open or closed molds," commented John Pizzo, Technical Service & Development Engineer. "In production scale testing, we found that its use can cut material costs by half when compared to using virgin resin to purge a molding system." Testing was conducted on a 650-ton molding press, running from black to white PP.
Asaclean UP Grade will be formally introduced in June at NPE 2003, the world's largest plastics and elastomers trade show. As part of a 6,000 square foot booth hosted by its parent company, Asahi KASEI, Asaclean will showcase a comprehensive product line, including purging compounds for high-detergency, high- and low-temperature, and enhanced general purpose applications. Visitors will be able to view product demonstrations and discuss specific applications with the company's experienced technical representatives.
