PTC Thermistors have 550 mA max hold current rating.

Press Release Summary:

Available in straight-lead or kinked-lead configurations, LVR series of PolySwitch devices are designed for use in line voltage applications. Polymeric positive temperature coefficient devices are rated at 240 Vac, permitting max voltages to 265 Vac. Thermally active devices help protect against overcurrent and overtemperature faults on primary side of power supplies and transformers. Products are UL-, TUV-, and CSA-certified.

Raychem Circuit Protection's PolySwitch Family Adds 550mA Device to 240VAC LVR Line Voltage Protection Series

MENLO PARK, CA - May 12, 2004 - Raychem Circuit Protection, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, announces the expansion of its LVR series of PolySwitch(TM) resettable devices. The new device increases the maximum hold current rating from 400mA to 550mA and helps protect devices from damage caused by overcurrent and overtemperature fault conditions. This addition gives the LVR series full coverage of applications up to 120Watts at 220VAC and 60Watts at 120VAC.

Designed for use in line voltage applications, the polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) devices are rated at 240VAC, permitting maximum voltages of up to 265VAC. The thermally active devices can help protect against both overcurrent and overtemperature faults on the primary side of power supplies and transformers.

"The LVR series has been very successful since its initial release in 2003, as the devices have been widely used to help protect battery chargers, appliances, pump motors and a large variety of other electronics powered directly from line voltage sources," said Matt Chamberlain, Sensor and Controls Marketing Manager for Raychem Circuit Protection. "This initial success prompted us to expand the product line by adding the 550mA device," he added.

Unlike a single-shot current fuse, the resettable LVR device can help protect against conditions where faults may cause a rise in temperature with only a slight increase in current draw. When installed on the primary side of the circuit, in proximity to potential heat-generating components such as magnetics, FETs, or power resistors, the LVR device can help provide both overcurrent and overtemperature protection with a single installed component.

The LVR devices are available in straight-lead or kinked-lead configurations, and can be supplied in tape-and-reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume assembly. They also have UL, TUV and CSA certifications to assist with agency recognition of the finished product.
