Promise Technology Showcases New VTrak Storage System at IDF Fall 2006
2U, 12-Drive Dual Controller SAS RAID 6 Storage Systems
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 27 // -- Promise Technology, Inc., today announced its high-performance VTrak E-Class SAS storage systems based on the Intel® IOP34x family will be showcased in the Intel Storage Zone at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco this week.
VTrak E-Class storage systems support SAS or SATA disk drives and active -- active, failover -- fail back RAID 6 dual controllers. The showcased 2U 12 drive bay systems using Intel IOPs support FC (VTrak E310f) and SAS (VTrak E310s) for SAN or DAS connectivity. These systems will be available through Promise's authorized distribution partners in the near future.
As storage requirements become more demanding, the need for increased flexibility and secure data access is paramount. The open architecture of the VTrak E-Class allows for the use of either SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) or SATA disk drives in the same system. This empowers value-added resellers (VARs), system integrators and SMB/enterprise end users by giving them the unprecedented flexibility to configure storage solutions in accordance with varying cost and application considerations.

Promise has selected the Intel® IOP341 I/O processor as the ideal platform for their new series of VTrak E-Class storage systems. The IOP341 is a highly integrated, high-performance, system-on-a-chip I/O processor incorporating low-power Intel XScale® technology. It provides open, full- function IOP-based RAID, including enhanced hardware acceleration for the RAID 6 feature set. The IOP341 is designed for any embedded market controllers, such as hardware video accelerators and high-end networking applications.
