Programmable Encoders enable fine-tuning of motion loop.
Press Release Summary:
Mercury(TM) SmartSignal(TM) Encoders allow resolution to be set in integer steps from x4 to x4096. Max linear resolution is 5 nm and max rotary resolution is 67.1 million counts/revolution. Output is A-quad-B and high-speed serial word. Encoders provide programmable alarms, programmable output bandwidth up to 28.8 million quadrature states/sec, programmable alarm thresholds, and diagnostics. All models have miniature sensor heads and work in linear and rotary applications.

MicroE Systems Introduces 10 Programmable Encoders to the Mercury(TM) Encoder Family
November 18, 2003, Natick MA
MicroE Systems announces its line of Mercury(TM) SmartSignal(TM) programmable encoders. Designed to give engineers optimal motion system flexibility, Mercury(TM) programmable encoders enable fine-tuning of the motion loop by allowing encoder resolution to be set in integer steps from x4 to x4096. Maximum linear resolution is 5 nanometers; maximum rotary resolution is 67.1 million counts per revolution. Output is A-quad-B and high speed serial word. Mercury(TM) encoders also provide programmable alarms, programmable output bandwidth up to 28.8 million quadrature states per second, programmable alarm thresholds, and diagnostics. There are ten models of varying resolution including vacuum-compatible styles. All models have miniature sensor heads measuring just 8.4mm tall and work in both linear and rotary applications.
Users access all programmable functions using MicroE Systems' exclusive SmartSignal(TM) software. This PC-based software lets designers set encoder resolution and monitor other parameters in real time: encoder position, status and alarms. The software also displays data plots: Lissajous patterns of raw and corrected signals, encoder signal strength over the length of travel, encoder position vs. time and encoder velocity vs. time.
Other enhancements include SmartSignal(TM) electronics for easy encoder setup and alignment plus integral LED alignment capabilities that display signal strength over the length of travel, as well as index position.
