ADLINK Introduces its 6U CompactPCI Board Based on the Intel® IXP2400 Network Processor at Supercomm

Irvine, CA (June 3, 2003) - ADLINK Technology Inc., a leading manufacturer of industrial computers for measurement, automation, and communication, today introduced the cPCI-6240, the company's latest 6U CompactPCI board, based on Intel network processors. The cPCI-6240 is based on the Intel® IXP2400 network processor and supports a Processor PMC site for additional control plane processing, PCI Telecom Mezzanine/Carrier Card site for quad OC-3 or OC-12 interfaces, and up to four additional gigabit Ethernet channels. The Intel IXP2400 includes a 600 MHz XScale(TM) core and eight 600 MHz microengine processors on a single chip to provide customers with flexible and high performance programming at up to OC-12 line speeds. The Intel IXP2400 network processor also supports up to 512 Mbytes DDR DRAM and 4 Mbytes QDR SRAM with ECC capability supporting applications with high storage needs. The product also provides 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI bus interface and Serial Debug Port with front and rear I/O access.

"The cPCI-6240 combines the Intel ® IXP2400 network processor, Quad MAC and Mapper Framer silicon onto a highly integrated CompactPCI board. With this higher level of integration, users can reduce the board count and cost of future telecommunication platforms " said Jeff Munch, Chief Technology Officer of ADLINK and also Chairman of PICMG 3.0.

Compliant with PICMG 2.15 PCI Telecom Mezzanine/Carrier Card (PTMC) specification, the interface of 16-bit 50 MHz Utopia bus provides the primary external connection to the cPCI-6240 board and thus allows the cPCI-6240 to support for Quad OC-3 and one OC-12 SONET applications. In addition, the Processor PMC (PrPMC) interface is an additional means of supplying a control plane processor to the cPCI-6240 and allows users to free the IXP2400's XScale core of these functions if needed. A rear I/O transition module is also available. The product is also compliant with the PICMG 2.1 Hot Swap specification and PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI Packet Switched Backplane specification as well as PICMG 2.9 CompactPCI System Management specification.

"The IXP2400 enables flexible delivery of speedy networking services at line rate to support a broad range of access and edge applications," said Jim Finnegan, general manager, Intel Network Processor Division. . "We believe the introduction of ADLINK's cPCI-6240 will help customers implement complete next generation platform solutions for 3G wireless infrastructure and high performance network security devices."

ADLINK has endeavored to develop and bring customers with leading CompactPCI technologies. A good example is the announcement of the world's first dual Low Voltage Intel® Xeon(TM) processor-based 6U CompactPCI single board computer last September. ADLINK's Monterey Technology Center (MTC), another good example, is working on the design of CompactPCI boards with aTCA architecture. Being an Associate Member of Intel® Communications Alliance, a newly launch Ecosystem community in Intel®, ADLINK is able to promise our customers with benefits of innovative products, fast time-to-market as well as a direct support from the international giant.
