Printers aid 3D solid computer aided design.

Press Release Summary:

Dimension 768 3D printers utilize Catalyst EX software to provide designers with toolset to process 3D models. Software imports STL files and automatically slices and orients parts, creates necessary support structures, and plots precise deposition path for printer to follow. Using durable ABS plastic, printers allow users to test 3D prints for functionality, form, and fit. SST 768 provides cleaning station that removes soluble supports.

Original Press Release:

Dimension BST and SST 768 Series Feature New Catalyst Software

MINNEAPOLIS - April 13, 2006 - The Dimension 3D Printing Group, a business unit of Stratasys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSYS), today introduced the Dimension 768 Series 3D Printers, the industry's first 3D printers to break the $20,000 price barrier.

Based on the same reliable platform as Dimension's previous offering, but with a newly designed exterior, the Dimension 768 Series utilizes new Catalyst EX software, providing designers an even easier-to-use toolset for efficiently processing 3D models. The Dimension BST 768 and SST 768 are priced $18,900 and $24,900, respectively, and are available immediately through Dimension resellers worldwide.

"We've given a whole new look and feel to our previous 3D printer offering with the new 768 Series," said Jon Cobb, vice president and general manager of 3D printing for Stratasys. "Our 3D printing technology, enhanced by the new Catalyst software, gives designers and engineers worldwide the ability to shorten design and development cycles and ultimately get products to market more quickly by enabling users to easily fine tune designs and explore multiple design iterations."

Catalyst software imports STL files and automatically slices and orients parts, creates necessary support structures and plots a precise deposition path for the 3D printer to follow. Dimension 768 Series 3D Printers use durable ABS plastic, allowing users to test 3D prints for functionality, form and fit. Whereas the Dimension BST 768 requires users to manually remove support pieces, the Dimension SST 768 provides a cleaning station that quickly and easily removes soluble supports, thereby enabling "hands-free" 3D printing.

The 2005 Wohlers Report, an annual rapid prototyping, tooling and manufacturing market report from independent industry analyst firm Wohlers Associates, Inc., cited Dimension as delivering the most 3D printers worldwide in 2004. Dimension 3D printers are the first systems to provide a true extension to 3D solid computer-aided-design (CAD) software by bringing designers desktop accessibility to functional, high-quality, 3D models at an affordable price.

About The Dimension 3D Printing Group

The Dimension 3D Printing Group is a business unit of Stratasys, Inc., based in Minneapolis, Minn. Dimension 3D printers - which include the Dimension BST and the Dimension SST - are networked, desktop modeling systems that provide CAD (Computer-Aided-Design) users a fast, office-friendly, low-cost alternative for building functional 3D prints. Dimension 3D printers build accurate models layer by layer using durable ABS plastic, allowing users to not only evaluate design concepts, but test 3D prints for functionality, form and fit. As the first desktop 3D printer that sells for less than $20,000, Dimension incorporates many key features found in modeling systems that cost tens of thousands of dollars more.
