Original Press Release:

IBM Infoprint Server for iSeries V5.3 Extends eServer iSeries Business Communications Capabilities

New capabilities in IBM Infoprint® Server for iSeries(TM) V5.3 extend your ability to transform print-centric output to e-business-driven output:

o Intelligent routing: This function provides for dynamic profiling of customers and users with distribution of documents and reports by print, fax, e-mail, and Web.
o User application interface: A new nonprogramming application-enabling interface is added to make it quicker and easier to deploy new business communications applications.
o Web image: This function supports the new document image formats in V5.3. OS/400® V5.3 provides for direct import of standard ASCII image files, such as GIF, TIFF, JPEG, BMP, and PDF, into business output from the Windows(TM) file system. Infoprint Server PDF services will handle this image
content in PDF production.
o File naming, location, and authority: Users of Infoprint
Server now have complete control over PDF filenames and
IFS locations, easing deployment and improving usability. You can
also set the authority level.
o PDF encryption: Encryption of document and report data, along
with password protection, broadens the scope of output that
can be distributed electronically.
o File size: Enhancements are made in PDF transform services,
resulting in significantly reduced file sizes.
o 2D barcode: Two-dimensional barcodes (UPS Maxicode, PDF417,
and Datamatrix) are now supported in PDF.
o Full-color documents: Full-process color images can
now be added to documents and flow to PDF files. Color uses the
new iSeries highly compressed color image standard, the IOCA
FS45 specification, or the Web image file formats.
o Planet barcode: This new zip code variant is supported in PDF.
o PDF orientation: Additional options provide control over the
orientation of a document or report in the viewer.
o Transforms optional feature: The PostScript to AFP(TM) and PDF to
AFP transforms are now packaged as a separate optional
feature.

Key prerequisites
Infoprint Server for iSeries runs on any IBM AS/400® or iSeries
Model 150, or higher. The PostScript to AFP, PCL to AFP,
and PDF to AFP datastream transforms require the PASE
environment. The TIFF to AFP, GIF to AFP, and JPEG to AFP image transforms require a PC running Windows.

At a glance
Infoprint Server for iSeries V5.3 capabilities for electronic business communications and PDF are significantly enhanced. Intelligent routing, the ability to dynamically profile and distribute output in different forms to customers and
users, is added. A new interface to business communication
functions eases new application deployment.
