Power Transmission Belts are designed to metric standards.

Press Release Summary:

Made to ISO standard metric profiles, GY Metric v-belts are suitable for use with European or Asian manufactured equipment. Drop-in replacement belts are made from compounds reinforced with natural fibers such as cotton, and exposed rubber edge for pulley contact maximizes torque-carrying capacity. Operating in temperatures ranging from -65° to 180°F, they are available in 10, 13, 17, and 22 mm widths and 487-8,000 mm lengths.

Goodyear Belt Meets Metric Demand

AKRON, Ohio, April 20 / / -- To meet the increasing demand for metric industrial replacement parts, Goodyear Engineered Products (NYSE:GT) has introduced a line of metric power transmission v-belts that takes the static zap out of manufacturing operations.

North America plant engineers are increasingly encountering industrial equipment made overseas requiring v-belts that adhere to metric standard unit measurements, according to Michael Lyons, Goodyear marketing manager for industrial power transmission products.

Lyons said the metric requirement can complicate scheduled maintenance and turn unscheduled repairs into costly downtime.

"Goodyear GY Metric belts are produced in North America, making them readily available for maintenance and repair operations," said Lyons. "The belts also incorporate a rubber compound that dissipates static electrical charge buildups."

To meet the demand of bone-chilling, deep-freeze refrigeration or sweltering metal casting operations, the belts can operate in temperatures ranging from -65 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Available in more than 300 sizes, it is made to ISO standard metric profiles.

Lyons said the belt's compounds are reinforced with natural fibers such as cotton for increased durability and performance, and its exposed rubber edge improves pulley contact to help maximize torque-carrying capacity and increase horsepower capability.

"GY Metric is a drop-in replacement belt that gives plant engineers the exact measurement needed for European or Asian manufactured equipment. It is available in 10-, 13-, 17-, and 22-millimeter widths and 487- to 8,000- millimeter lengths," explained Lyons.

To complete the support of metric standards, Goodyear Maximizer, a drive analysis software program, has been updated to include metric measurements. It helps plant engineers determine the best drive maintenance plan and schedule.

"Maximizer helps match belts, sprockets, pulleys and bushings to equipment specifications and provides the most efficient metric drive solution for specific applications," said Lyons.

In addition to industrial power transmission products, Goodyear Engineered Products manufactures heavy-duty and lightweight conveyor belts, industrial hose, automotive belts and hose, and air springs. For more information, visit www.goodyearep.com/.
