Astec Power Introduces 1U, 145 Watt, Quad Output, Compact Switcher

Power Factor Corrected Unit Features Wide Range Adjustability on Three of Its Four Outputs

CARLSBAD, Calif. - September 3, 2002 - Astec Power, a leading merchant supplier of power conversion solutions, today announced the arrival of the LPQ142 into its low power switching family. With user adjustability on three of its four output voltages, one with a range of ± 3.3V to 25V, this power supply is an ideal solution for any low profile application that requires tightly regulated, low output ripple, quad DC power. Active power factor correction makes the LPQ142 comply with EN61000-3-2 requirements for input current harmonic content. The LPQ142's wide universal input voltage range (85-264 VAC and 120-300 VDC) and frequency range (47-63 Hz) make it transcend international borders.

Boasting 3.45 watts per cubic inch, the 1.5 inch tall LPQ142 is 1U (1.75-inch) rack ready. Reflecting on the release of the LPQ142, Tom Tillman, the Astec Power product manager stated, "The flex-appeal that the wide range output adjustability gives to this supply will make it popular with designers who need a plug-and-play solution for their low-profile applications, such as remote networking devices, single-board computers and high speed Ethernet appliances."

Operating at an efficient 75 percent while delivering a full load, the LPQ142 has single wire current sharing on the main output, which has a wide adjustability range of 3.3V to 5.5V.

With 30 CFM of forced air across an open-faced unit, the LPQ142 can deliver a full 145 watts of output power to its loads. The unit can be oriented for lengthwise or crosswise airflow, giving designers layout flexibility. The LPQ142 can also be convectively cooled, and an optional cover is available for the chassis. Full rated output power can be delivered while operating within an ambient temperature range of zero to 50 degrees Centigrade (°C). The LPQ142 can continue to deliver power between +50°C and +70°C, as long as the maximum power drawn from the unit is de-rated by 2.5 percent per °C of ambient
temperature above +50°C.

The LPQ142 has been through Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and has more than 550,000 hours of demonstrated Mean Time Between Failures, at 25°C. It also complies with the major worldwide safety and performance standards and has UL, CSA, CE, CB, NEMKO and VDE approval markings. Designed to meet FCC and CISPR22 Level B conducted emissions, the LPQ142's built-in Class B EMI filter also meets most industry standard noise and immunity requirements when properly mounted and grounded within an approved equipment chassis.
