Fairchild Semiconductor's New Web-based Power Supply Toolkit Targets Power Design Requirements

South Portland, Maine-May 25, 2004-Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) today announced a new web-based Offline Power Supply Toolkit, that enables designers to dramatically reduce design cycle times while addressing specific application requirements. The Power Supply Toolkit, found at www.fairchildsemi.com/designcenter, features state-of-the-art tutorials, selection tools, and design aids specifically addressing AC/DC topologies.

Fairchild offers the broadest selection of products for power supply applications. This new toolkit is one element of Fairchild's Global Power Resource-a complete power design source that includes Fairchild's six "Centers of Excellence" Power Systems Laboratories located worldwide, and online resources that address designers' specific power application needs. Fairchild's Global Power Resource offers customers a unique approach to quickly overcome challenges in power conversion, distribution, management and minimization.

Fairchild's new Power Supply Toolkit includes:

Tutorials-The "Magnetic Reminder" is an easy-to-navigate tutorial that serves as a primer on the practical application of magnetics in power supply design;

Selector Tools-Design-oriented tools use customer-defined system criteria to aid in the selection of Fairchild products including PWM (pulse width modulation) controllers, the Fairchild Power Switch (FPS) family of products, optically isolated error amplifiers, power MOSFETs, and other components; and

Design Aids-A sophisticated online tutorial allows designers to decide between flyback, forward converter and quasi resonant topologies; evaluate basic operation information and advantages and disadvantages of each topology; and review background information for choosing optimal topology for a particular design.

"The Power Supply Toolkit is the latest example of design tools offered by Fairchild to address designers specific application and time-to-market demands," said Dr. Izak Bencuya, chief strategy officer, executive vice president and general manager, Power Discrete Group.
