Power Management Software helps conserve power usage 24/7.

Press Release Summary:

QuikCycle AutoLab(TM) helps automate each step in pre-production testing lifecycle for networks and network-related equipment. With it, service providers and network equipment manufacturers can optimize ability to run more tests in less time. This is accomplished through remote control of lab power use via integration with intelligent power strips and switchable PDUs. Examples include powering-down equipment not in use and powering-up equipment only when scheduled for test.

QuikCycle Paints Test Labs "Green" with New Power Management Solutions

AutoLab Software Helps Conserve Power Usage 24 x 7--

Santa Clara, California, April 25, 2007. QuikCycle(TM), Inc., a leader in solutions for lab automation and test management software, today announced the newest enhancements to its AutoLab software designed to assist test labs to more efficiently manage power consumption, while also optimizing their ability to run more tests in less time. QuikCycle software helps automate each step in the pre-production testing lifecycle for networks and network-related equipment.

Test labs of large service providers and network equipment manufacturers are characterized by a high density of rack-mounted computer servers and testing equipment in constant use, as companies rush to test products or services prior to customer deployment. More powerful computing technology has quadrupled the amount of heat this equipment generates, indicate industry sources. As a consequence, companies' ability to cool test lab environments is strained, contributing to not only increased power consumption but a higher risk of equipment failure due to excessive heat. For some companies, the only solution is to build more or larger laboratories, or invest in more cooling solutions. Either way, additional cost and power consumption are required, which only compound the problems in the long run.

QuikCycle AutoLab(TM) power management capabilities are designed to help test organizations better cope with these challenges, including the ability to remotely control lab power use from miles away through integration with intelligent power strips and switchable power distribution units. For example, AutoLab software can automate lab management's ability to:

Power-down equipment when it's not in use
Power-up equipment only when it's scheduled for test
Sequentially power-up or down equipment to limit power surges
Remotely reset or re-boot equipment
Power-cycle devices as part of a test scenario
Monitor equipment utilization and power-down equipment not being used, based on pre-defined standards

These capabilities can apply to all lab equipment, including items such as network, test and storage devices, as well as computer servers and monitors. QuikCycle's device integration framework also allows easy integration with a wide range of popular power control equipment from manufacturers such as APC, MRV, Server Technology and Western Telematic, among others.

According to IDC, a leading technology analyst firm, costs associated with the powering and cooling of data centers will almost triple total hardware costs by 2009. Further, IDC analysis indicates that, "With the average server system, the customer spends more on power and cooling over the entire life cycle than what they will spend up front (in reference to the hardware purchase)." 1

"Market pressures are putting increased demand on service providers and equipment manufacturers to accelerate the delivery of new products and services to market," said Nariman Teymourian, QuikCycle Chairman and CEO. "In turn, test labs are being asked to do more product testing more quickly. Poor power management can contribute to increased test expense and risk of failure. AutoLab is designed to help our customers to meet both of these challenges head-on, through automating both the test lifecycle and management of power consumption at the same time. The result is better management of their lab environments overall."

QuikCycle AutoLab with enhanced power management capabilities is now generally available for purchase.
