PHIHONG Multiport Midspans Significantly Lower The Upgrade Cost To Implement PoE In Existing Enterprise Networks

FREMONT, Calif. (February 2, 2005) - Phihong, the global leader in low-cost power supplies, introduces its new multiport Midspan power injectors for Power-over-Ethernet applications. Available in 8, 16 and 24 port versions, the Midspans offer full 15.4W per port, at a cost that is 40 percent lower than competitor solutions that have only limited total power capability.

"The cost of implementing PoE for VoIP phone systems using midspan power injectors was almost as high as replacing the network switch," said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing for Phihong USA. "Phihong has developed a family of Midspans that have changed the equation, significantly reducing upgrade costs to existing enterprise installations."

The Phihong Midspans also eliminate the need for installers or systems administrators to prioritize who gets power and who doesn't. The Phihong Midspan powers all ports to full power specification limits of IEEE802.3af, so there is no decision or configuration required.

Power-over-Ethernet allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable, enabling a device to operate entirely from the power it receives through the data cable. A midspan is used to implement PoE into an existing network where power can be inserted on the spare pair.

The Enterprise Midspan provides eight to 24 ports to upgrade an existing architecture with total output power of 370W. Offering 15.4W per port, the Midspan will full power to all ports so there is no need for calculating which devices to connect. The USB port allows for diagnostic testing via laptop so no adapter cables are required. Other options include a redundant DC RPS input for single point power source backup and optional NIC interface for remote management via ethernet. Each Midspan comes with software to control and monitor each port along with full power management capability for load shedding in back-up power conditions.

Pricing for the 24-port Midspans start at $295 in OEM quantities. More information is available on the web site, at www.phihong.com/midspan.
