Stackpole's New SMD Power Inductor with Shielded Construction Offers Wide Inductance Range of 1.0 µH to 10,000 µH

PS Series intended for medium and low frequency circuits...

RALEIGH, NC (November 22, 2005) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announced the release of a new surface-mount, wirewound, shielded inductor that provides high reliability and enables easy surface mounting in close proximity to other components on the assembly board.

The new PS Series is intended for use in medium to low-frequency resonant circuits for higher-current applications in notebooks, PCs, flash memory devices, converters, and other electronic systems.

In addition to shielding that enables manufacture of more compact end-products, the new inductor features excellent solderability and resistance to soldering heat. As a result, designers can integrate greater functionality on available board space without compromising the overall performance and reliability of the end product.

A wide range of inductance ratings is available for the PS Series inductor, with values ranging from 1.0 µH to 10,000 µH. Standard tolerance is ±20% (±10% is available) over this range, and rated current ranges from 1,000 mA to 20 mA.

The PS Series is available in 3 sizes (6.6 mm x 4.45 mm x 2.92 mm, 12.95 mm x 9.4 mm x 5.08 mm, and 18.54 mm x 15.24 mm x 7.62 mm). The inductor, which features a ferrite construction with a magnetic shield, is rated for an operating temperature range of 40 °C to +85 °C and is both 100% lead-free and RoHS compliant. It is suitable for reflow soldering and provided in tape and reel packaging to enable automatic handling.

Samples and production quantities of the new PS Series of shielded inductors are available now, with a lead time of six weeks.
