MRV Debuts Managed Power Solutions for High-End Data Centers and Laboratories

5250 Series Extends MRV'S Complete Out-of-Band Management Solution, Adding Higher-Density and Three-Phase Power Options

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Oct. 16 -- MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (NASDAQ:MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products, today announced the 5250 Power Control Series family of enterprise AC power control devices, which provides remote power management for intelligent power distribution and enables maximum operational uptime.

The 5250 products are the latest additions to MRV's product family that works in conjunction with the LX Series of console servers to provide a complete out-of-band networking solution. The 5250 products are available in both horizontal and vertical form factors with eight-, 16-, 24- and 32-port models and are designed for a complete range of power distribution applications in enterprise data centers or remote equipment closets.

"Power management is becoming a critical element in data centers, R&D labs and in remote facilities to detect and correct problems quickly, and reduce the cost of managing the operational infrastructure," said Noam Lotan, MRV president and CEO. "The addition of the 5250 series to the MRV power management family gives us greatly expanded flexibility to meet increasing demands."

The 5250 series models accept 20- or 30-Amp input, feature a number of inlet and outlet connector options, and are available for U.S. or European installations. The product family also includes a three-phase power model providing increased power capacity and installation options. The 5250 family provides input current monitoring, power up sequencing, and the ability to control and group outlets by name, within a unit or across multiple units, providing complete manageability and control. Integrated management control of the power control devices is typically provided via console management via an LX Series console server. These console servers extend security and access control to the 5250 products through standard security infrastructure including RADIUS, SecurID, TACACS+, LDAP or local database and are FIPS 140-2 certified.

The 5250 series joins MRV's recently added 4800 Power Control Series family of -48 VDC power control products for telecommunications power control applications. The 4800 series models connect to LX Series console servers and feature all of the remote connectivity and security features of the 5250 series. The four-, eight-, and 16-port power control devices support redundant power supply routers and switches through dual 100-amp power inputs, and feature interchangeable fuses that allow administrators to replace fuse values to change the amperage rating of each outlet circuit.

MRV's LX Series family of RoHS-compliant console servers provides redundancy and security features necessary for the out-of-band networking needs of both enterprises and carriers. Other capabilities in MRV's integrated solution include remote console management access via wired and wireless modems and sensor networking to provide control of the physical and environmental infrastructure.

The 5250 series is available now at a starting price of $765. For more information, visit MRV's Web site at www.mrv.com/.
