New Amphe-Power Connector Series From Amphenol Provides Increased Load Per Circuit
Sidney, NY, November 2001 - Amphenol Industrial Operations has announced the availability of its Amphe-Power connector series, which allows users to increase the current load per circuit while reducing the total number of circuits in the application, resulting in lower overall costs. The new connectors provide reliable and convenient electrical connections for a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications.
The Amphe-Power series consists of Amphenol's Power P-lok®, GT Reverse Bayonet, and threaded MS5015 style connectors, all incorporating the patented RADSOK® socket system.
Amphe-Power connectors carry high amperage current with low milli-volt drop, which provides a favorable temperature rise in the most demanding applications and maintains low insertion and extraction forces. Amphenol's unique RADSOK technology, developed over many years of manufacturing and application research and testing, is the most cost-effective and efficient design of its kind. The RADSOK terminal, a patented electrical terminal based on a hyperbolic grid configuration, contains a cylinder with several equally spaced longitudinal beams twisted into a hyperbolic shape. As a male pin is inserted, the grid deflects imparting high normal forces. The hyperbolic, stamped grid configuration ensures a large, coaxial, face-to-face surface area engagement. This results in a low milli-volt drop connection with a low insertion force. Additionally, the ruggedness of the stamped grid and cylinder allows for a high quantity of insertion cycles as well as off-axis insertion.
The following insert patterns are recommended for use with the RADSOK sockets installed into the Amphe-Power connectors with mixed signal and current applications. Other patterns are available by consulting the factory.

The size 8 American Wire Gauge (AWG) Amphe-Power contacts now handle currents up to 69 amps while size 4 AWG will handle up to 120 amps. Although actual data may vary with the style of connector, typical thermal rise data after 500 cycles of durability is as follows:
Size 8 AWG socket: 380C @ 46 amps and 78°C @ 69 amps
Size 4 AWG socket: 210 C @ 80 amps and 470C @120 amps
Amphe-Power connectors are environmentally sealed to IP65 specification levels and are based on the industrial standard MIL-C-5015. The sealing features of Power P-lok, threaded and GT Reverse Bayonet connectors include front and rear o-ring seals and gaskets as well as compression grommets designed to seal on the cable jacket.
A wide variety of connector hardware and strain relief options are offered for this series. Plugs can be made with male or female contacts, straight or right angle cable adapters-including basket weave, and with or without compression grommets. Receptacles are also made with male or female contacts, panel mount or in-line styles with the same cable adapter and strain relief options as the plug
