Power Connector meets PICMG 3.0 performance requirements.

Press Release Summary:

Designated for use in Zone 1 as specified by PICMG 3.0, ATCA Power Connector is comprised of 8 size 16 contacts and 22 size 22 contacts. It uses gold over nickel plating at contact interface, and tin plating on PCB terminals. Insulation body has integrated guiding feature, and contact terminals provide compliant press-fit zones for assembly to PCB. Stamped female contacts' lead-in design, combined with contact cavity protection, prevents contact stubbing.

ERNI Unveils ATCA Power Connector

Complete ATCA Solution with Signal and Power Connectors Now Available

ADELBERG, GERMANY - November 8, 2006 - ERNI now offers a complete connector portfolio for the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) standard. To complement the well-established ERmet ZD connector, used for fast data transfer and compliant with the ATCA specification, ERNI has launched the ATCA Power Connector, designated for use in Zone 1 as specified by PICMG 3.0.

The AdvancedTCA (PICMG 3.0) standard defines connectors for three functional zones: power supply and system management (Zone 1); data fabric, update channels and timing clocks (Zone 2); and backplane rear I/O (Zone 3). The ERmet ZD connector from ERNI has been optimized for high-speed data transfer (Zone 2). Zone 2 can accommodate up to five ZD connectors per subassembly for base fabric (Gigabit Ethernet), extended fabric (the actual switched fabric interface), update channel and timing clocks (synchronization).

The new ATCA Power Connector is comprised of 8 size 16 contacts and 22 size 22 contacts. It uses gold over nickel plating at contact interface, and tin plating on pcb terminals. The controlled thickness of plating within the socket at contact interface points ensures high reliability and performance.

The insulation body has an integrated guiding feature, and, based on reliable long-term field experience, the contact terminals provide compliant press-fit zones for easy assembly to a PCB. The press-fit zones are flat-rock compatible, which negates the need for special press-in tools. The special design fully protects against any risk of damage while pressing-in the connector.

The stamped female contacts' lead-in design, combined with contact cavity protection, prevents from contact stubbing. The post-plated contacts have no bare edges for long-term use in critical environments. A mounting screw (customer supplied) may be used, but is not required.

The ATCA Power Connector meets the PICMG 3.0 performance requirements, is fully intermatable with alternative connectors designed to the same standard, and is RoHS compliant.
