Postini Announces Integration of Web Filtering Service

Postini Teams With ScanSafe to Deliver New Web Content Manager for Web-Based Security and Compliance; Expands Postini's Integrated Message Management Portfolio

SAN CARLOS, Calif., June 5 /- Postini, the global leader in Integrated Message Management, today announced Postini's new Web Content Manager, a secure managed service that provides protection against web-based malware and policy violations. Together with ScanSafe, the pioneer and global leader in managed web security, Postini announced its new service which broadens the company's suite of integrated security solutions delivered through the "Software as a Service" model. The addition of Postini Web Content Manager now allows companies to control, monitor and ensure compliance of content across multiple channels including email, instant messaging and the web. The new URL filtering and anti-virus/anti-spyware protection service provides scalable web processing that is designed to ensure high performance and best-of-breed protection and control.

"We're seeing more and more instances of customers asking for a comprehensive web filtering solution as they experience higher volumes of cross-protocol and cross-channel attacks," said Scott Petry, founder, chief technical officer and executive vice president of product development at Postini. "Through the new service we are addressing those needs in a way that only Postini can - integrated with email and IM security and management to provide a comprehensive framework for securing and ensuring compliance of electronic data. In ScanSafe we have found the ideal partner and clear technology leader to satisfy our customers."

Postini's Web Content Manager provides enterprises with compliance management facilities by allowing administrators to control access to personal webmail accounts, web-based IM solutions, and other peer-to-peer communications tools that may bypass IT controls. Further, Postini's Web Content Manager improves productivity by avoiding employee distractions, and can eliminate security breaches as a result of port 80 attacks. Postini Web Content Manager also offers customers all of Postini's managed service benefits such as lower cost-of-ownership, ease-of-use and high scalability, availability and reliability. Through Postini's common admin console, customers will access Web Content Manager alongside the other Postini services, Perimeter Manager, Perimeter Manager for IM, Archive Manager and Encryption Manager.

"Providing customers unified managed service solutions with best-of-breed technologies is the way forward. Our strategic partnership enables Postini customers to have a complete security solution wherever they are, but from one trusted source," said Roy Tuvey, president, ScanSafe. "There's no point putting locks on your doors if the windows are left wide open. Our approach has always been to clean and filter Internet traffic upstream, removing the need for customers to install hardware in each site and maintain, support and update software around the clock."

With the rapid increase in Internet malware across multiple ports and protocols, the market is turning away from point products and looking to integrated solutions for comprehensive protection of their networks. IDC estimates the Secure Content Management market, which includes anti-virus, web filtering and messaging security, at over $7 billion in 2006.

The leading US recruitment firm Russell Reynolds is one company that already benefits from both Postini's and ScanSafe's services across its offices in 34 countries.

"We protect against the threat from SMTP through Postini and use ScanSafe to protect against HTTP and FTP threats," said Gavin Atkins, CTO, Russell Reynolds. "A managed web security service is so easy to use, as we redirect our traffic from our proxy servers. Threats are eliminated before they reach our network and we haven't noticed a degradation of service or increased latency in our Internet access. The biggest advantage is the very significant capital expenditure savings we made across our international offices by removing the need for separate infrastructure in each location let alone the ongoing management resource that is now freed up to deal with other initiatives."

"It's absolutely critical for companies to secure their networks from web-based threats," explained Michael Osterman, principal at Osterman Research. "Malware is shifting from just email delivery to instant messaging and the web, meaning that corporate compliance and good practice require restricting access to personal webmail and other non-approved - and potentially dangerous - communications tools. Companies need to deal with the web in the same manner in which they have dealt with email and IM."

Postini Web Content Manager:

o Restricts access to particular web sites based on category or administrator control to alleviate employee misconduct and liabilities
o Prevents security threats from entering the enterprise via web-based
malware, spyware and viruses (that may result from normal web browsing)
o Integrates seamlessly with Postini's common policy framework, providing
users with a centralized interface for controlling transmission of
content into the enterprise
o Lowers total cost of ownership (TCO)
o Secures inbound and outbound content

The service will be available in Q3 of 2006.
