UL/ULC Listed AC-Operated LVDTs Designed for Operation in Power Plant Applications

New HLR 750 Series AC-LVDTs are UL approved for operation in Class 1, Division 2 and Class 1, Zone 2 hazardous locations.

Pennsauken, NJ, November 8, 2002...Macro Sensors has built the HLR 750 series of UL/ULC listed AC- Operated LVDTs for operation in gas or steam turbines and other hazardous environments. These ¾" (19mm) diameter, hermetically sealed sensors offer reliable contactless position measurement for critical applications in power plants using gas or steam turbines such as vane pitch servo controls, fuel valve position feedback, governor controls, shaft end play and runout, as well as generator shell expansion measurement. The environmental robustness of the units also make them ideal for position measurement in petrochemical process plants, gas transmission pumping stations as well as auxiliary power generators.

Available in full-scale measurement ranges from ±1 inch to ±10 inches, the HLR 750 Series feature high resolution, excellent repeatability typically better than 0.01% of full scale and non-linearity of less than 0.25% of full range output. Other notable features of these these rugged sensors include:

o A UL/ULC rating for continuous operation in Class I, Division I, Groups A, B, C and D and Class I, Zone 2, Group IIC hazardous locations (NEC 500 and 505).

o A through-bore design makes the sensor's core accessible from both ends for better mechanical support and core guidance, as well as facilitating bore cleaning.

o Lead wires exit through a radially mounted ½" NPT male rigid conduit fitting for easy attachment to an explosion-proof junction box as well as rigid or flexible conduit.

Constructed of stainless steel, the HLR 750 Series of AC-LVDTS are rated for operation in temperature ranges of -65º (-55ºC) up to 300° F (150°C). Their temperature rating enables the HLR 750 Series to serve in many applications in steam turbine power plants.

To complete the measurement system, Macro Sensors supplies support electronics for the HLR 750 series which work well with either conventional differential input LVDT signal conditioners or ratiometric signal conditioning circuits. For added protection against environmental elements, electronics can be installed in explosion-proof enclosures and connected to LVDTs using a suitable conduit.

Pricing for the HLR series range from $995 to $1499 depending on range. Macro Sensors also provides a full array of non-standard and custom-designed units for OEMS and utilities systems integrators.
