Position Sensor suits off-highway applications.

Press Release Summary:

Temposonics® Mobile Hydraulic sensor provides non-contact measurement inside hydraulic cylinders. It is constructed of 3 primary components: magnetostrictive sensing element, sensing electronics, and application housing that protects internal components from environmental conditions. Pressure housing comes in 7 and 10 mm dia, with static pressure rating of 4,300 and 5,000 psi, respectively. Measuring range is 50-1,000 mm with 0.005% accuracy.

MTS Sensors Introduces Mobile Hydraulic Cylinder Position Sensor

Temposonics® MH position sensor ideal for off-highway applications...

CARY, N.C. (December 9, 2002) - Expanding its line of Temposonics® position sensors, MTS Sensors Corp. has announced the introduction of a new product to meet the needs of the mobile hydraulics market. The new MH magnetostrictive position sensor is ideal for use inside mobile hydraulic cylinders applied to on- and off-highway machinery.

"The extremely rugged construction and highly reliable noncontact measurement of the MH sensor are an absolute must for these types of applications," said Temposonics Marketing Manager, Dave Edeal. "Achieving a compact sensor envelope and competitive price ensures that machine OEMs and cylinder suppliers now have a viable option for position feedback in the new generation of smart hydraulic cylinders used in mobile machine automation applications."

As with all Temposonics position sensors, each MH sensor is constructed of three primary components: the magnetostrictive sensing element, the sensing electronics, and a robust application housing that protects the internal components from environmental conditions. The MH sensor is designed for "embedded" application inside hydraulic cylinders with a minimal impact on the cylinder installed envelope. The pressure housing comes in two diameters, 7 and 10 mm, with a static pressure rating of 4300 and 5000 psi respectively.

The MH series provides a measuring range of 50-1000mm with an accuracy of 0.005% that is more than adequate for most mobile sensing applications. The sensor accepts a 10-32 VDC power supply range and offers a direct analog displacement output of 0-5 VDC. Unlike most competitive products, the MH has specifically been designed and tested to the stringent shock, vibration and electromagnetic immunity specifications of the on- and off-highway vehicle industries.
