MTS Introduces Lowest Cost Magnetostrictive Sensor in The Market

EP2 model replaces potentiometers by providing greater accuracy and repeatability...

CARY, N.C. (April 14, 2003) - MTS Systems Corp. Sensors Division announced the introduction of the EP2 low-cost magnetostrictive position sensor. The modular EP2 is a complete position sensor equipped with pre-assembled, shielded wire connections and electronics in a small, robust package that is ideal for specialty machine designers.

In order to make fast, direct and cost-effective purchases, complete EP2 sensor information is available at www.MTSSENSORS.COM.

"The availability of low-cost magnetostrictive sensors will prove to be a major advancement in machine design," said Temposonics Product Manager, David Edeal. "The benefits of magnetostriction have long outweighed potentiometers, but overall cost has been an obstacle. MTS can now manufacture these modular sensors in high-volume to help keep sales costs down."

Each sensor is equipped with a waveguide sensing element, conditioning electronics for output position data, a protective metal application housing and an external position magnet. The entire sensor may be mounted to the machine by way of optional mounting feet and screws. The free-floating magnet is affixed to the moving machine part to calculate exact position. Sensors are available in a variety of lengths. Lengths should be determined by matching the machine's range of motion with the sensors active stroke length.

The shielded, pre-assembled wire configuration consists of a 24VDC power connection, an output signal connection and a ground connection. The output wire connects to any standard 0-10 VDC LCD output display.

Customers may directly specify and order the EP2 sensor at the MTS online storefront. The storefront includes, principal of operation statements, product, wiring and installation diagrams and troubleshooting solutions.
