PortWise Introduces the Industry's First Fully Integrated Secure Application Access Platform, Moving Beyond Simple SSL VPN's

PortWise 4.0 Integrated Platform Moves Beyond Point Product Deployment to Deliver Integrated Identity and Access Management for Mobile Enterprises

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 15 / -- PortWise, the secure application access specialist, today announced the availability of PortWise 4.0, the industry's first fully integrated software platform that provides cost-effective Identity and Access Management for the Mobile Enterprises. Available as a software solution or as a pre-installed appliance, the PortWise platform provides a holistic and flexible approach to protecting internal and external application access. PortWise is also making its security application available along with the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System and Sun Microsystems' AMD Opteron-based Sun Fire servers in order to provide an advanced, pre- packaged security appliance to enterprise customers.

Going beyond a traditional point security product deployment, the PortWise software platform offers a rich, integrated suite that addresses all aspects of secure application access, including proactive device assessment, strong user authentication, reduced sign-on, policy-based user authorization, secure clientless access, identity and access auditing, and session clean-up. Using the PortWise software platform, it is possible to provide secure access to critical information and applications for internal users, business-to-business customers, and external consumers from any device in any location. PortWise 4.0 allows organizations to securely mobilize their workforce, simultaneously boosting productivity among employees and partners while protecting the integrity of their organization.

"Just providing an SSL VPN access solution for your employees is no longer enough," said Kaushik Thakkar, Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Alliances. "Customers and regulators demand a tightly coupled set of security services-such as strong user authentication, application-level authorization, access auditing, and device compliance-that work seamlessly together with SSL VPN-based access. Organizations that do not take an integrated approach to providing secure application access for their employees and partners are creating an unprecedented opportunity to introduce viruses, spyware, and a slew of other malicious attackers directly into the heart of the datacenter. More and more cases of compromised data and identities have forced regulators such as the FFIEC and SEC to take action. Secure access requires a strategy, not simply point products."

"With PortWise 4.0, organizations can support mobile enterprises without sacrificing the need for flexibility or security," said Thakkar. "By its very nature, our software has concentrated on secure application access, as well as adding a breadth of capability and cohesiveness to identity and access management that is unprecedented in the industry. PortWise 4.0 enables organizations to extend the capability of their mobile workforce and partner communities, to consolidate the management of application access into a single, auditable location, and to maintain corporate security and regulatory requirements."

PortWise has pre-installed PortWise 4.0 and the Solaris 10 OS on Sun Microsystems' AMD Opteron-based Sun Fire servers, and is able to integrate with the Sun Identity Management Suite and other third-party authentication solutions and directory services, such as Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, and LDAP. "We are please that PortWise has selected our Solaris 10 OS and AMD Opteron-based Sun Fire servers," said Gilles Gravier, Chief Technology Strategist for Security at Sun Microsystems. "By combining the Solaris OS, Sun advanced server hardware, and the PortWise 4.0 solution, PortWise has created a pre-packaged security bundle that can deliver high value to organizations of all size."

PortWise 4.0 is a comprehensive platform offering, which addresses the six 'A's so critical to ensuring secure application access: Assess, Authenticate, Authorize, Access, Audit, and Abolish.

PortWise 4.0 provides a full security assessment of a user's device (laptops, PDA's, smart phones, etc.) before it is allowed to connect to a corporate network, ensuring that the device fully complies with centrally- defined corporate security policies. Security inspection may include checking for the existence of a personal firewall or anti-virus software, the installation of correct operating systems and security patches, spyware, and other criteria. Non-compliant devices may be refused entry, or referred to an appropriate software update site.

PortWise 4.0 is able to determine a user's identity with its unique two- factor authentication functionality. The software platform verifies the identity of a user first through a username and password, and then by leveraging the identity of the mobile device being used (be it a mobile phone, pager, or BlackBerry handheld). Through the application's two-factor authentication process, PortWise 4.0 offers the highest level of security possible without the need for hardware-based token technology. Additionally, the software integrates fully with an organization's existing infrastructure such as Microsoft Active Directory, OpenLDAP, and Novell e-Directory Services, ensuring that user identity will not be duplicated when providing strong authentication.

To truly provide an application-centric access solution, users must be granted access on an application-by-application basis each time they log in. PortWise 4.0 determines which applications a user gains access to at login time. This policy-based authorization can be set to evaluate a number of factors, including which geographic access point they are using, the type and level of authentication they provided, the type of device they are using, and their role in the organization.

PortWise 4.0 provides access through a highly available, securely encrypted network tunnel between a user's device and the desired application. As the PortWise solution is clientless, access is available through a user- friendly portal via any Internet browser. Its scalable, modular architecture means that multiple access points can be implemented at no extra cost providing Mainframe, Client/Server, Web, Terminal Server, and File Server application support from any device.

PortWise 4.0 audits and records the identity of individuals that gain access to different applications, as well as the time of access, type of application, and what information was downloaded. This central capture of all remote access activity provides a permanent record of the session-increasingly important when organizations are called upon to demonstrate compliance to industry, government, or corporate regulations.

Finally, PortWise 4.0 abolishes all traces of access to the corporate network upon completion of the session, including cookies, URL history, cached pages, registry entries, and downloadable components.

Pricing and Availability
PortWise Enterprise Edition 4.0 is available immediately and pricing starts at $331 per concurrent user.
