Original Press Release:

Precision Wire Solderless Terminal Retention Testing You Can Perform on the Manufacturing Floor, in the Test Lab and in the Field

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS: MidTel Technologies, Inc. is introducing their new easy to use portable tensile strength pull tester used to certify the quality of crimp-on solderless lug, ring, funnel barrel, tongue and spade terminals to wire. The MidTel MPT-500 Crimp Terminal Pull Test instrument is a portable tool using a hand-held ratchet-action tester to make destructive pull type force measurements to crimp-on terminals terminated to wire, exerting up to 200 pounds force. The digital readout displays the exact fail force point in 1/2 inch high digits. This tester provides an excellent way to verify production for SPC and other quality assurance programs in OEM and maintenance applications. Providing adequate crimp force on installed terminals guards against failures when excessive force is applied to wire bundles when stressed during maintenance/repair and seismic events. The tester is ideal for use on the manufacturing floor, in the test lab and in the field. The system consists of a lightweight digital meter, ratchet-action tensile stress tester and power supply, packaged in a rugged rigid protective case.

The tester operates on AC or on the built-in rechargeable battery power. The MPT-500 verifies crimp-on terminal compliance with industry pull force requirements. Tests are accurate and N.I.S.T. traceable. When the MPT-500 test indicates terminal retention below established pull force specifications, it will caution the installer that an off-standard condition may exist with either the terminal, the wire, installation tools, or that the proper terminal installation procedure had not been followed. The cause of the failure can then be determined and corrected prior to beginning the installation project.

The retention tester exerts up to 200 pounds force via ratchet-action. Accuracy is ±0.5% of reading plus least significant digit. Resolution is 0.1 LBF. Display Type is LCD with .56" high digits, showing peak holding reading. Electrical power input is 115 VAC, 50/60 Hz with supplied AC power adapter or 12 VDC internal NIMH rechargeable battery, 14-hour duty. Operating Temperature is 50°F to 100°F. Dimensions are 2" H x 9.5" W x 6.25" D. Instrument and hand-held retention tester weighs 2.5 pounds. There is an internal calibration test verification. Factory calibration is recommended at least annually. N.I.S.T. traceable.

The easy to use, almost effortless ratchet-action handled stress unit tests standard cable with ring, spade and other crimped-on solderless terminals. Models are available to accommodate other wire sizes and terminal types.

Introductory pricing for the standard MidTel model MPT-500 is $1,995.00. The regular price will be $2,450.00. Quantity pricing available. The MPT-500 is obtainable directly from MidTel Technologies, Inc. via their website: www.midtelusa.com, phone or fax. Visa & Mastercard are accepted.
