DATEL's new LSM-10A Series, 10 Amp, non-isolated, POL (point-of-load) DC/DC's are the epitome of modern power converters. They have the standard 6-pin SMT form factor. They are shipped in standard tape-and-reel packaging for high-speed automatic assembly onto mother boards. They are assembled lead-free, and they can be attached to mother boards using lead-free solder.
LSM-10A's exploit a contemporary buck-regulator topology. Their fixed-frequency (100-300kHz) design is accurate (±1.25%), efficient (up to 96%), quiet (noise as low as 3OmVp-p), and incredibly easy to use. These "plug-and-play" component DC/DC's typically do not require external support components, heat sinks, supplemental air flow, or EMI filtering.
Furthermore, LSM-10A's boast the lowest published prices ($9.95 USA each for 10k pieces) of any comparable 10A DC/DC converters, and they can be ordered over the internet and shipped anywhere in the world the next day. Someday, all DC/DC's will be this way.
Complete Selection in Standard Packages
The new 10A models of DATEL's LSM Series offer input voltage ranges centered around 3.3V (3.0-3.6V range), 5V (4.5-5.5V) or 12V (10.8-13.2V). Nine output voltages (0.8, 1,1.2,1.5, 1.8, 2, 2.5, 3.3, and 5 Volts) enable the 24 models in the Series to address virtually all contemporary applications. LSM-10A's use the de facto SMT package standard. They are small (1.3 x 0.53 x 0.34 inches, 33 x 13.5 x 8.6mm) and offer on/off-control, output-sense, and Vout-trim functions.
Lead-Free SMT with Heat Shield
LSM-10A Series DC/DC's fall under the DATEL Lead-Free Initiative. This program eliminates all lead from our printed-circuit boards (pcb's) and from our assembly and pinning processes. LSM-10A pcb's have an electroless nickel/immersion gold (ENIG) finish (instead of traditional solder), and the package pins are tin-plated copper.
The surface-mount LSM-10A's all carry high-temperature, plastic heat shields. The heat shields (to be removed and discarded or recycled after assembly) maintain a 500C differential between the LSM-10A's SMT components and the hot circulating air of a reflow oven. Consequently, the LSM-10A's, which are assembled using high-temp (+220°C) lead-free solder, can be attached to a user's board with the same lead-free solder.
The Feature Set
Additional performance features of LSM-10A's include tight line/load regulation (±0.1%/±0.25% max.), quick step response (100µsec), stable no-load operation (for load circuits going into "sleep" mode), and the ability to start-up monotonically and operate without incident into a pre-biased load. LSM-10A's also feature output current limiting and full short-circuit protection (hiccup mode with auto recovery).
Price and Delivery
In small quantities, LSM-1 OA Series POL DC/DC's are priced at $17.90 (USA) each. In OEM quantities, LSM-10A pricing rapidly drops to $9.95 each (1Ok pieces, USA). Free sample/evaluation units (for qualified OEM's) and small purchased quantities (<25 pieces) are immediately available from stock. Production quantities require 6-8 weeks. All units are shipped tape-and-reel unless otherwise specified.
Eval Boards Have Pre-Mounted Units
Because of the challenges involved in bench testing small SMT devices designed for high-volume automatic assembly, the LSM-10A evaluation boards (LSM-EB Series) come with pre-installed LSM-10A's...hence the eval boards' 24 different model numbers. In addition to the DC/DC, the boards carry assorted passives, trim circuits and banana-jack receptors for I/O connections.
