Original Press Release:

GE Fanuc Delivers New Intelligent Processor PMC Module (PPMC) based on IBM's PowerPC 750FX Processor

Provides space saving, low cost, CPU solution for Embedded Systems

VENTURA, Calif. - July 22, 2003 - GE Fanuc Automation Americas, Inc., an affiliate of GE Industrial Systems, introduces the PMC702, the latest in its range of Processor PMC (PPMC) modules. Based on the IBM® PowerPC 750FX processor with speeds of 800 MHz to 1.1 GHz, the PMC702 is ideal for applications running multiple processors for high-end solutions.

GE Fanuc's PMC702 supports the PCI-X interface, capable of speeds of 64 bit/133 MHz for faster data throughput while retaining its backward compatibility to the PCI bus to ensure 'upgradability' for current applications. On-board memory options include 128/256 or 512 Mbyte of DDR memory and up to 512 Mbyte of Flash. I/O features include an RS232 port on the front panel for console access and additional dual 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet interfaces for high bandwidth system designs. Board Support Packages for both the open sourced Linux® operating system and WindRiver's VxWorks® Real-Time Operating System are available.

Processor PMC modules are becoming increasingly popular for engineers designing high-end, I/O intensive hardware. By utilizing a modular, open-design concept to address the processing power, design engineers can easily upgrade the central processing unit without the need to redesign the complete hardware platform. Processor PMC modules are an ideal, space saving, low cost daughter card solution to bring CPU processing into embedded systems. Based on the IEEE 1386 Mezzanine Card R1.0 standard, the PMC702 is fully compatible to the VITA Processor PMC standard 32-2002.

Prototypes of the PMC702 will be available mid August with quantity shipments scheduled for September.
