Original Press Release:

ANTENNA Enhances AMPchroma(TM) Mobility Platform-as-a-Service (mPaaS)

Enterprises can now dramatically reduce the time and cost of deploying mobile apps by leveraging cloud services for value-added functionality

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- ANTENNA, the authority on enterprise mobility, today announced enhancements to the Antenna Mobility Platform, AMPchroma, its industry-leading mobile app platform that enables enterprises to build and manage mobile apps. The key update to the platform is the availability of the AMP Services Engine, a mobile app delivery mechanism that speeds the development process through a services-based architecture sometimes referred to as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). Antenna's exclusive focus on mobility means it is now delivering "mPaaS" functionality.

The new AMP Services Engine is a mobile app delivery mechanism that powers the rapid deployment of shared, reusable services that deliver specific functionality for mobile apps. As part of today's release, Antenna is delivering the following pre-packaged AMP Services:

1. Authentication - provides enterprise security for mobile users and data

2. Enterprise data integration - delivers easy integration with backend systems

3. Notification - supplies infrastructure for push notifications to mobile users

4. Geolocation - identifies physical location for mobile devices and users

5. Web rendering - HTML5 pre-processing and rendering for mobile web apps

But these new services from Antenna are just the tip of the iceberg. Antenna customers and partners can easily deploy other third-party services, or develop their own custom services to be deployed via AMPchroma. Apps deployed with AMPchroma can leverage the entire emerging market of backend-as-a-service providers (BaaS) to add targeted functionality quickly, easily, and cost-effectively.

According to a recent Forrester Research report written by senior analyst Michael Facemire, "Service-oriented architectures (SOA), largely implemented using simple object access protocol (SOAP) and XML-RPC protocols, have served the desktop browser perfectly; while mobile presents new challenges, web protocols are chatty, verbose, and often session- and state-based." The report also notes, "Three-tier architectures that have traditionally supported web applications will struggle to perform and scale with large mobile deployments. Your new, mobile world revolves around event-driven, asynchronous architectures built using well-designed, easily consumable API tiers."[1]

Antenna's new services-based architecture, along with open APIs to pre-packaged services, was developed around the idea that mobile is different and presents unique challenges that many organizations have never had to deal with before. It also recognizes that each member of the "mobile steering team" has specific needs, which don't necessarily have to be addressed by bringing in multiple solution providers:

--  Developers - AMPchroma speeds deployment with pre-built services for authentication, enterprise data integration, notification, geolocation, and more.

--  IT Departments - AMPchroma future proofs investments with open, extensible APIs for access to third-party services, without sacrificing the management control and reporting that comes with an enterprise mobility platform.

--  CIOs - AMPchroma ensures enterprise-grade security for mobile projects even in a BYOD environment, and protects their investment in technology through streamlined integration with existing systems and other third-party services.

"As a pioneer in the mobility space, Antenna has always been on the leading edge of applying new technology to enterprise mobility challenges, and this time is no different," said Jim Hemmer, CEO. "Today's enterprise developer is more demanding than ever - looking for open, flexible, cloud-based services that can be assembled quickly to build killer mobile apps. With our enhanced AMPchroma platform, we are empowering them with a common services-based architecture that delivers targeted functionality to build faster and integrate more easily."

Antenna's newly released 2013 Mobile Business Forecast uncovered that integration is a central element of complexity in enterprise mobility. Nearly 40% of IT decision-makers polled for the survey said they have been frustrated by the failure of the mobile projects they have commissioned to integrate with their backend data/services, and 67% of that same audience say they went over budget on their mobile projects because they underestimated the complexity of those projects and the time needed for backend integrations. Almost an equal number of business decision makers lost money due to integration as well, with 62% saying their mobile projects went over budget because they underestimated the complexity and/or time needed for backend integrations.

Antenna has also released an entirely new version of its management console, AMP Manager, with expanded capabilities, including MAM and MDM.  Core components of the new console include:

--  Improved dashboard and user interface, with drag-and-drop zone for streamlined app deployment

--  Comprehensive mobile app management (MAM) capabilities, including the ability to create private enterprise app stores

--  Lifecycle management of apps providing tiered approach to promoting new or updated versions through development, testing, production, and on-going maintenance phases

--  Complete user management functionality for pushing apps and updates to users based on assigned roles and groups

--  New mobile device management (MDM) features for enterprise security and compliance, including remote wipe, data isolation and password reset
